I have a registered stryr aug full auto. The auto sear is steel. The hammer is polymer. I've had this thing a long time. It's gotten a point now where the sear has eaten into the hammer, and I think it may be causing the occasional issue. So one possible remedy might be getting a steel hammer. But then if I did that , I might have the issue of the now steel hammer eating up the polymer regular seer. Etc. I guess I can just keep replacing the hammer every once in a Blue Moon.But can anybody think of anything more effective or less expensive? |

I’ve got a transferable Qualifed sear. So far there hasn’t been any noticeable wearing of the polymer hammer against the steel sear. I don’t think you would want a steel hammer wearing against your sear. A spare polymer hammer from a surplus Malaysian full auto pack would be a better option. |

I had an epiphany... The cocking piece on my (old) full auto 9mm bolt is steel unlike the cokcing piece on the 5.56 which is polymer. It's -possible that the it could be the cocking piece causing the weird wear. I'm not sure exactly what is going on but the bottom front of the hammer is chewed up a bit but it still seems to work most of the time. I haven;t re-tested it yet since I replaced the 9mm firing pin I broke the tip off of. |

No. Actually it makes perfect sense and works exteremely well in multiple guns including the P90 and AUG. Small issue may appear only after multiple thousands of rounds and a decade or so when you put aftermarket parts of differing material togegther as is the case with a registered steel auto seer. |

You might be able to go with an aluminum hammer which in theory will last longer than the polymer, but that depends a lot on what polymer they actually used for the hammer. In theory it should cause no wear on the steel sear, but if the sear is the really, really expensive part of the gun, I would rather have 3-4 spare hammers to slowly eat up over the decades than use anything that might wear on the registered sear. Cheaper to pick up a couple of Malaysian spare trigger packs for the spare hammers than replace a single registered sear. Just my two cents. Sven Manticore Arms |

I have a handful of shooter A1 rifles and one of them has 14000rds without much wear on the hammer. You mind posting some pics of the wear pattern? I assume your 9mm kit is the Gen 6. My preban Gen4 9mm kit also has a steel cocking piece. No abnormal wear on the hammer either. IIRC, you’re the same guy on Reddit that had multiple Gen 6 Austrian 9mm kits and US made LMG barrels listed for sale. |
