Will an aluminum (6065?) spacer hold up in a 556/223 rifle can? I found a few aluminum M style cup from way back in the D-cell mag light, Chinese solvent trap days. Could I mill out the entire center and use them as spacers in a rifle can? How much pressure is placed on spacers, approximately? I'd imagine it's drastically less than an actual baffle. Would heat be an issue? |

Spacers aren't containing the pressure you're most likely thinking of (outward). Could they work in some rifle designs, absolutely. Many European silencer Mfr's make hunting silencers using Aluminum. I would keep it to very casual rates of fire, however. Realistically speaking, spacer tubing is super duper cheap and there's not enough reasons to compromise. |

on my 30 can build I used steel baffles and titanium everything else. titanium spacers were easy enough to cut to length. |

What did you cut the titanium with? -I pretty much gave up on cutting titanium tube -It trashes the mill bits, hacksaw and bandsaw don’t bite/cut, pipe cutter crushes it before it will cut it, even w/new blades… basically needs a lathe which I no longer have… I guess I didn’t try a grinder cutting wheel, that would probably do it. |
