If I already have a 10.5" SBR and a 14.5" P&W? I shoot suppressed 100% of the time.

Sold my previous 16" barrel upper. The main goal of this new build will be lightweight. I'll be running a Faxon low mass BCG FWIW. I have everything for the build minus a handguard & barrel. Leaning Fostech for the HG, but don't see stock anywhere.

For some reason, I am leaning 12.5" over the 16". Wanting to go mid-length gas system either way.

I prefer 11.5 over 10.5 or 12.5.

Yes. I have gone away from 11.5" as a main gun and now shoot a 12.5" as my main gun. Velocity gain over 11.5" is enough to warrant the extra inch while being very close to 14.5", but significantly harder than 14.5". 10.5"/10.3" for a dedicated CQB type gun, but IMO 12.5" really is a do all length

Are you somehow incomplete or in danger without one? Nope. Is it a cool, versatile barrel length? Yup. I like mine. But I’d get rid of it before my 11.5, 14.5, or 16.

The 10.5 that I had the opportunity to shoot seemed to "bark" a little more, while the 12.5 doesn't seem that much different than the 11.5.

Most of the time I shoot my 16", as I like the noticeable velocity gain when shooting steel out to 600.  For under 300, the 11.5 does well.

Makes sense, thanks. I shoot suppressed all the time so that helps with any "bark"

12.5" is hugely versatile barrel length, in my opinion. Deep into the triple digit jump in fps over an 11.5", and single digit, to low double digit, gap between it and a 14.5" in a much handier package. That is, with 55 and 62 gr ammo. With 75 gr + the 14.5" does outpace the 12.5" a decent bit.

If you "want" it, that is reason enough.

Do you "need" a 12.5" being that you have a 10.5" and 14.5" already?  Probably not unless there is something about one of your current barrel lengths that you really hate.

Nothing I hate. Whatever I end up doing, the #1 goal is lightweight

The answer you seek is to have each of the listed sizes.

10.3, 10.5, 11.5, and 12.5.

The better answer is to have multiple of each.

I don’t know what all the whining is about 10.3’s and 10.5’s being unbearable when they are unsuppressed, but that’s BS, get better ear pro.

They all are fun to shoot, with and w/o cans.  Plus, there is the whole clone factor if you are into those.

Why would I need all of them & why multiples? I'm not a collector & this is not my 1st or only AR

Why not have multiple’s?

I lost count of the number of AR’s I have and the number of SBR’s I have.

But I like for each upper to have a dedicated lower and have various configurations for the same barrel length. But then again, I also do things in 3’s since a lot of my stuff goes into a Trust for my 3 kids.

And why all of them?  Clones… 😂

You're missing 12.0.

I put it together from parts, but it's all Colt with the M4 Commando lower and 12" barrel having been made for the European market. Maybe 12" is the minimum length in one of the EU countries?

And nice A2 carbine. I should build an upper like that.

Again, I am not a collector or hoarder or one that needs 100 guns just to have.

I appreciate the extra space on the handguard. I was concerned about the form factor more than anything else.  The FM-15 is pretty light weight!

Decided to replace the 10.5" upper with 12.5"
Almost done. Whole rifle is a little over 4 lbs right now. We'll see when it's 100% assembled.
