Is anyone planning on doing a pistol as a shoulder stocked Pistol?  If so, which guns?

With Tax Stamps at $0.00, I figure I might as well  do one as a range toy.  I have an older "Federal Ordnance" or "Fed Ord" 1911 wood stock and mainspring housing that I recall picking up in the 1980s?  I think.  Fed Ord had newspaper like advertisement periodicals and they alleged these were somehow Lebonese contract wood stocks that never left (overstock)

Glocks, P320s, have drop in kits.  Is there anything else?

I was hoping SDS (Inglis) would make an affordable  Hi Power clone with a tangent sight and stock cut in the butt.

I would love to do a 92 makeover to a 93R-ish conversion.  I think I have a replica stock - but needs the special mainspring housing.

I’m probably going to SBR my SIG Spear LT once I see how the process works, speed efficiency wise.

Not at the moment. I'm in the process of moving to Texas, so I will wait until i settle down. I already have two cans and an SBR registered in AZ that need to be transferred, plus i have to update the NFA Trust I have for the SBR.

Cans, it all about the cans!!

I may knock a brace lower to them but if travel notifications are still required, then its not worth it.

Did mine earlier in the month, will let you know how it turns out! Pretty excited for it, I didn’t use it but silencer shop also had a service where they do most of the heavy lifting and charge $50.

I intended if anyone was planning on doing a traditional handgun conversion to SBR like the shoulder stock kits to convert to rifle but SBR and use it shorter.

I have a few extra Glock 19 9mm clones I was considering maybe making a SBR out of one, for a goof.
Not sure what would be involved.
There are a few projects in the way first though, maybe when the New Years rush has cleared.

So a Glock is easy, there are quite a few chassis to put a Glock into or very simple stocks that have an male insert for the empty space inside the magwell behind the mag.

The odd thing is - I can't find this in stock except Airsoft vendors?  Can be had for like $20+

Recover tactical has an attractive Chasis can use AR15 stocks and braces.

When mounting a Glock in a B&T USW chassis, which part should be engraved, the pistol lower (where the serial number is) or the chassis (which includes the stock that actually makes it a rifle)?

The Glock frame would need to be engraved.  It has to be the receiver, the same part with the serial number on it.

At the moment I only have one braced pistol, a P365 Flux. I don't plan to SBR it though. My state allows concealed handguns on a CCL, but not concealed long guns, so SBRing it defeats the purpose of the Flux for me.

If I could legally conceal an SBR, I'd be all about it though.

That would be cool!  I'd definitely form 1 one of those.

I don't think there is much, if anything on the market right now, regarding reproductions of the classic pre-war type stuff. It's not just the stock, but you need sights that work up close too.

Maybe the market will evolve.

Right now it seems a basic red dot pistol equipped with the capability to attach a brace/stock is the closest we can get on today's market. In concept and functionality, the P365 Flux is pretty close to the vintage stocked pistols. It's compact, holsterable and can still be used as a pistol. Most of the other stuff is closer to PDW than pistol.

I also have an XD9 I've considered turning into a carbine to use as a trunk gun.  This bight be a better solution depending on aftermarket kits.

I’ve played with most of the chassis setups and have most of them-the best pistol based PDW is the USW-A1 and the best conversion is the USW-G. I still really like my 20/20 and 20/80 braces and think they fill a role, but the stone truth is that they aren’t the same animals as the USW’s.

I might do a 365 FCU. Not so much to throw a stock on my Flux (which I could do) but when I lived in Texas they had a weird set of situations where carrying a pistol is illegal but a rifle is fine. So I think there will be some of this happening there to get around it.

The problem with suppressing a revolver is the barrel cylinder gap lets out too much noise.  Heritage has a threaded barrel on some of their .22 single action revolvers and reports are that it gets louder when you put a suppressor on it.

There are a couple revolvers out there the move the cylinder forward to seal the gap.   There also was a company that made a cover that enclosed the entire cylinder.  But the ATF said that the cover itself made the gun quieter so it was a suppressor as well.

They range from uselessly floppy to a little floppy and useable to “OMG, this thing is a little rifle and shoots like one”.

The one that plugs into the bottom of the grip is indeed the worst for flex. Then comes the one that uses the bottom of the grip and the beaver tail-useful but janky. Then the flexible but usable would be the 20/20 chassis-perfect for a throw around you don’t care about for an ‘extra’ glock you have laying around. I have two, one with an FRT in it…. Take a bit to learn how to shoot it best but it’s……Effective.

Past that you get into the metal chassis like the B&T USW-G. Those are rock fucking solid. I run one like a small rifle using a 7.5” 9mm barrel and a 1x prism scope with a BDC meant for 7.5” barrels and 115gr. 9mm. They can be had in large frame if you want to step up to something like 10mm for bear etc.

My next USW-G will just be a standard length barrel and a red dot. Either way, they are GREAT out to 100m and run suppressed well, though the 7.5” needs a lighter recoil spring from all that weight on the end of a barrel that long.

Thanks, i kinda figured glock stocks would be janky as all hell, but there was always a chance that theyd manage to function decently

Stocks are one thing, but I honestly don't get the 'drop a whole ass pistol into a chassis' thing outside of the 3d2a community

for the prices involved looking at chassis', its got to be easier and cheaper to chop down a pcc than go the drop in route

I can't warm up to the add-on stocks as they all look pretty marginal.  The chassis approach at least gives something PDW-ish.  With that thought n mind, I SBR'd a Glock 17 several years ago.  Then I did another one during the brace amnesty.

I'm kind of liking the looks of the Recover Tactical P-IX chassis.  I wonder how much mushier the trigger gets with that transfer bar.

Having said that, when it comes to actual shooting, it's hard to beat a basic PCC.  Take a look at the targets.  Both were shot with the same ammo from 25 yards, from a rest. Glock chassis target on the left and Ruger PC Carbine on the right.

One might think the better approach would have been to get a Ruger PC Charger and SBR that instead.  The only advantage I see for the Glock in that situation is that the Ruger is a brick.

@vaultdweller

I didn’t mention it because most people scoff at the cost, but the best pistol to SBR adaptation is the factory USW-A1. They come with an Acro which helps offset the cost a bit, and come in DA/SA and a striker fired variant. I don’t have any experience with the striker fired version but the CZ based DA/SA version is just Titties ‘n Beer and my favorite gun in my collection.

Unlike the chassis guns, it’s a firearm the size and weight of a P226 with a shoulder stock, a really pretty decent trigger, and it’s the quietest suppressor host I have for 9mm handguns by a noticeable amount. The difference between the conversions-even B&T’s is that those are small PDW sized weapons where the A1 is a holsterable handgun that can be fired like a pistol but is optimized for being fired like a rifle.

Fantastic gun, Zero regrets. I like my USW-G’s a lot, my recover 20/20 and 20/80’s and even the g17 with the 6 second mount and ends tactical AR stock adaptor with brace…… but the USW-A1 and G are just different animals entirely even if they aren’t the same product.

All that said, I still rock the Recover chassis and love just being able to throw them in a bag and travel. Being able to easily FRT a Glock with a quality trigger like a Serpico Performance is a plus as well.

YT short of the First mag I put thru it:

Later that day shooting at a water bottle, 5-6 magazines thru the gun:
Shorter bursts with Serpico Performance FRT

Everything is a trade off-a recover 20/20 might not feel rock solid in the hung/stock but it’s not that bad and functionally doesn’t affect it. You end up with a 9mm shoulder fired weapon that does everything you can get from a 9mm AR but it fits in a Glock box. A shortened PCC or rifle still needs a bag to transport-what has more value…. The gun in your glove box or the SBR’d PCC that you left at home because you got tired of running the gauntlet getting in and out of the car with your tennis racket bag because you don’t want the neighbors to see?

I can still face shoot someone at 120yds with a red dot’ed Glock in a Recover chassis. I’d prefer something else but if that’s what you have with you it’s hard to beat.

I have one thanks to an Arfcommer who took pity on me after a burglar got most of my guns. IIRC, Buckmark Carbines are made in runs. Accuracy with the bull barrel isnt exceptional, get a sporter version.

IIRC, the barrels aren’t interchangeable but it’s been the better part of 20 years since I knew for sure.

I asked this in another thread but it seems to fit here better.
I have a random question. Where would one engrave a FCU type pistol in a chassis? don't they only have a small window exposed?
And on a Glock type pistol how can you fit the engraving on the serial number plate?

For an FCU like the P320 has, you engrave the FCU cage. The Flux Raider for example has a window left in it that exposes a spot where you can mark it and have it visible.

For a Glock where the whole plastic frame is legally the firearm, you can make your engraving anywhere visible, even on the plastic.  A lot of people do the bottom of the trigger guard.

So if I Sbr a 3d printed frame I can just engrave my maker info and a serial number in the plastic? That's good to know, Thanks!

On my MSW-320 I chose to engrave both the FCU and the chassis.
