Sorry, OP.  I bought a bunch of Tapco Gen 2 mags last year, and vendor has long been out of stock on both Tapco Gen2 and (nearly as good) Thermold mags.  I mercilessly plundered the vendor at that time, and later shared the opportunity on perfectunion.com.  Vendor was out of stock very shortly, amd remains so.

OEM Ruger>PMI>Tapco Gen2>Tapco Gen1>Thermold>ProMag>John Masen>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>No-name

Any old mag, and some new mags might need a spring replacement; usually Springs for GI 30-rd metal mags will work and can be carefully cut-down for 20-rd mags.  Midway sells Ruger followers which will fit in some mags but not in others.

There are other GTG metal Mini-14 mags whose Mfrs names I can't recall.  Some metal mags were as well made as the Factory Ruger mags, and were always clearly identified by mfr's name.

Some mfrs make GTG Mini-14 mags, and poor Mini-30 mags; sometimes the reverse is true.  Suggest perfectunion Mini forum is best forum to find info on decent Mini-14 and Mini-30 mags.

IDK why Magpul does not buy the tooling and rights to make the Gen 2 Tapco mags again; It's been suggested to them many times, and no response.  Why re-invent the wheel?

All best wishes, OP!

Going to gun shows is likely your best option at this point, as I reckon most vendors have exhausted their stocks of Gen 2 Tapco mags by now.

I got very lucky when I found a vendor with decently priced Tapco Gen 2 mags, back when.  I feel your pain because I went through the 10 years of the Fed AWB, which also included so-called "High Capacity Mags".

Genuine Ruger mags are the "Gold Standard" nowadays.  Priced accordingly, unfortunately, but against that, very durable.

If I was offered a choice between a NIB 30-rd Ruger-brand mag and a NIB Gen 2 Tapco mag nowadays, I'd probably opt for the heavier, but more durable Ruger-brand mag.  Ruger will "warranty" defective mags, but Tapco is out of business.  The lighter weight Tapco Gen 2 mag was always considered as a very good and relatively inexpensive alternative to factory Ruger mags--when they were available at reasonable prices.  IIRC, the Tapco Gen 2 mag was never considered "better" than the factory Ruger mags, just "Nearly" as good, and much less expensive.

If I come across some Tapco Gen 2 mags, I'll post about it in this forum first.  PerfectUnion guys got the "head's-up" the last time.

Suggest you >>might<< consider the Thermold mags as an alternative to the Gen 2 Tapco.  Roughly on a par with Gen 1 Tapco mags, but the Thermold mags I have often used have seen a LOT of range use over years, and zero problems so far.  IDK what the availability of Thermold mags might presently be.

If buying USED mags, always consider a thorough internal cleaning of the mag body is likely required, and a spring replacement might be needed, possibly a follower replacement as well.  Suggestions for both items given above.

Good luck, OP!
