I swear I have seen something like that on one of the new AUGs that I have handled, but I would have to dig through a bunch of stuff to check. Does the lack of finish continue down the whole slot, or just in that area? You do have to rack parts to anodize them, so there is always a hole/spot where you will see a lack of anodizing, but usually I would expect that to be a relatively low profile/hidden area. (one could argue you do not normally see that channel so that might indeed have been a racking area) The charging handle shuttle should'nt put that much wear on it, even if someone ran the charging handle a thousand times, plus you would likely see wear on the upper side of the receiver. It may also be that they anodize and then bead blast and apply Cerakote, and that spot just got missed on the Cerakote, or once again racking might have blocked cerakote in that spot.
