As you know Illinois General Assembly in its infinite wisdom passed the Protect Illinois Communities Act two years ago.  We all thought the M1A was now a "naughty" rifle.  But someone read the law (is the weird or what?) and noticed the M1A is only illegal if it has a flash suppressor.  Muzzle brakes are okay.  Here is an article about the rifle Guns Save Life is giving away this summer.

Today is the first time I've looked up the IL ban, but see this "6. a shroud attached to the barrel or that partially or completely encircles the barrel, allowing the bearer to hold the firearm with the non-trigger hand without being burned, but excluding a slide that encloses the barrel."

That seems like it would ban the M1A unless you took the handguard off. It looks odd, but they work fine without the handguard.

That description bans everything as it describes a stock.

Because f that commie, and his buddy behind him...

I have an lrb version and it's probably my favorite rifle. I just wish 7.62x51 wasn't so expensive.

True!

Legislators are generally ignorant people.  Just read what they write.

Thanks to California, there are two basic options already on the market to keep you legal.

1.  Fake flash hider - the slits in the flash hider are not open but it looks representative.

2.  Muzzle brake - doesn't quite look right but it is effective (and legal!)
