Can this be remediated? I under stand that bore will be slightly out of round and i don't imagine that won't go back with straightening. It belongs to a friend and he brought it to me in pieces, some of which are missing. If i get it back in service and has accuracy issue he will just use it as a knock around.

Oh!

Ohh!  Ho ho!!!!!

Now that's a nice bend!!!!!

Barrels can be straightened but usually that is done by factory personnel during manufacture and the bends are NOT to that extent.

THAT should just get a new barrel.

Probably going to need a new barrel, but there's nothing to be lost by attempting to straighten it.   A hydraulic press and some blocks to work on it and a dial indicator to determine where and how far to push it and you may well get it straight enough.

A couple of good YouTube videos of Remington. One is called “ One at a Time” 1969, showing the manufacture of the 1100 shotgun. Shows barrel straightening, and it is not gentle. Gives an idea on how it’s done. Blocks contoured to the barrel that minimizes or negates any flattening of the barrel.

If you DIY for straightening, use an arbor press not a hammer.

It may be a little exaggerated in this photo. I didn't notice it right away but after pushing a patch through the bore is when i noticed. Then a closer look at the outside to make sure it wasn't the barrel contour i could see it.

Check some of the cowboy action shooting sites.

Probably going to be as much as the gun is worth by the time you pay labor, shipping, and for the barrel.
best bet is see if one of them will sell you a barrel to do yourself if you are confident you can rebarrel it yourself.
But like mentioned if you have access to a 20 ton press make some jigs to fit the barrel and press away.
If you,can get it in a lathe you can use that and a indicator to check it between centers once you are close.

FN uses an arbor press to straighten new barrels during the QC process.

I’d get a pice of drill rod just undersized of the rifle lands cut to 25% of the barrel length and straighten it until it passes through. You’ll need V-blocks and a dial indicator to find the high spot

Tweaking a shotgun barrel is far different than straightening a big bore rifle. The question is after all the work and fuss is done, are you or the owner keen on taking that first shot.

an old timer demonstrated a way to straighten rifle barrels to me years back.  no need for any special equipment, just a wooden countertop you don't mind marring and wacking it against the bend.  go slow and check regularly.  works. FLAME ON!

I sat down to post a pic of a 98k barrel bent to almost 30* about four inches from the muzzle that I straightened.
Extreme example, but a numbers matching collectible rifle.

It shot to point of aim after.

Sadly, I discovered while looking for this pic, that 15 years of pictures of my custom rifles and repairs I have made are gone.
F*ck!  Looking at my other computer and devices, apparently they are all networked(not done on purpose) and the pics are missing from them all.

EDIT:  Back up memory stick found!

The use of a large heavy sandbag to do this type of work is/was more common.
It was a method taught at high end gunmakers.   Probably still is.

I have a copy of this book:  Specialized Gunsmithing Techniques of William J. Nittler

It came to me accompanied with a VHS tape that I long ago had to dispose of as it had become unwatchable.
In the video Bill does as you describe to change the Point Of Impact on a set of shotgun barrels.   Overhead swing -- SMACK -- into sandbag on his bench.  I cannot recall the exact maker of the barrels but it was something like Purdey or Holland & Holland.

This should start at the portion where he is actually working on the barrel.
He makes the repair by smacking on a piece of firewood.

If you are afraid of taking the first shot without knowing, then after the barrel is straightened and a rod passes through as mentioned above, then drive a lead slug through the barrel and measure the diameter at multiple points.

If measurements show near perfect roundness at proper SAAMI diameter then it is safe to shoot. It is not an obstructed barrel.

Tape it down into a couple wood blocks with the bend facing upwards and step and put all your body weight on that bend. Them jump up and down on that foot. I’m being serious. You’d be surprised
