I use the Caswell stainless steel blackener pretty often for small parts. Degrease well and blast the part with 400 grit for a nice matte finish. Then wash in warm water and oil. Unfortunately, I have had less than stellar results on larger pieces. Mottled, uneven color and not much more durable than a coat of Rustoleum. I do bluing and parkerizing with very good results but those don’t work on stainless. Until I figure out how to DIY nitride, I’ll stick to Cerakote for stainless steel. |
