I hope all of you are fans of the District 9 movie set in Johannesburg, S.A.  The "evil" MNU force is tasked with relocating  the alien "prawn" from their ghetto below their disabled spaceship in Joberg.  If you haven't seen the movie you should as there are lots of great Galil and other firearm scenes.

It is not very often that I get a somewhat rare or unusual firearm and I could not prevent myself from posting some gun porn. A few years ago I was lucky enough to get on Jeff Miller’s unadvertised Vektor CR-21 buy and build list and he just shipped me this unique CR-21 taken straight from South Africa and the District 9 movie set.

As far as I can tell, Bruce at Hire Arms in South Africa acquired the District 9 movie guns and the remaining CR-21 black stock systems in South Africa and exported them to the U.S. I understand that Jeff Miller ended up with most of the shells. As many on this forum know, Jeff is a master with the Galil rifle system which comprises the “firearm’" part of the CR-21.

I am aware of a few CR-21s built in the U.S. with Jeff Miller having one and another had been owned by Larry Vickers but it was recently sold on GunBroker for some crazy amount.  There is another one floating around in YouTube world.  Jeff and Larry have/had rifles with the factory optic which is unobtanium in the U.S.

My rifle started its life as an older Century Golani that passed Jeff’s hardness and function testing. It was mated to a District 9 movie set shell that has the original South African optic rail and the MNU white District 9 finish and markings. This rifle is unfired by me (Jeff test fired it). I was told that it likes the Galil steel surplus mags but I found that the S.A. R-4 mags also fit.

I need to figure out a realistic and practical optic for the rifle and I am considering the Meprolight M21, Trijicon TA-45 ACOG, Leupold LCO or one of the Eotechs. I need to figure out which optic is at the right height so I can avoid a strange cheek weld. Given its rarity, I am not sure how much this rifle will get out to the range.  Any suggestions?

This is my first bullpup so I do not have anything to compare it to. I do like the weight distribution and as you can see from the pics below, it is about the same length as the Galil SBR MAR (built by Jeff Miller). I suspect Jeff will be rolling out other CR-21 builds and it will be interesting to see how many of them made it into the U.S. In any event, Here is my Vektor CR-21:

Very cool! I bet the guys on the replica prop forum would love to see that.  I need to rent District 9 and watch it again, it's been a long time since I've seen it.

Fooking Prawns!!!!

Nice & Unique firearm.

I've always really liked the SA R-5s, especially the short barrel carbine versions.

Great Snag there O.P.!

If a guy wanted a Galil just like that one, what would he be looking/searching for?

Nice!

Jeff has been working for years to get a few more of those kits in country, Larry Vickers was #1 on the list and I was #2, and he only has gotten the one kit so far, LOL.

The other rifle you see working its way around is owned by the Owner of DS Arms.  I have fired it on semi and full and it is a hoot to shoot.

I think there are 2-3 other kits here in the U.S., have seen them show up on Ebay and gunbroker very rarely.

Sven,
Thanks for clarifying who has the known existing rifles.  The full auto would be a hoot.  It looks like I am further down the line than I thought. I recall seeing a video about a build but I have never seen a kit offered on GB.  My understanding of how many CR-21 kits are in the U.S., how long they have been here and who has them is different than yours. I am not going to argue with you and I have great respect for you and your company.  I am not Jeff's spokesperson and do not want to cause him any issues so I will shut up. All is good.  I just hope more of these unusual rifles get built.  Again, thanks for all of the great products you guys produce. Anything for the CR-21 in the works?

That Hensoldt is awesome. I have never seen that optic.  Is the armor the rubber cover or is it metal?  Great looking AUG.

This reminds me, years ago, I think 2006, someone at Knob Creek had four or five SAR-21 kits with chopped receivers. I was in grad school at the time and couldn't afford to spend that kind of money on a distant future sort of project. Now I wish I had eaten Ramen for a few months and picked one of those up.

The armor is rubber, the RSA is made from a carbon fiber composite & titanium and is solar/battery powered. It’s actually lighter than a T1. The glass is clear with no tint. I’ve had several of them, they are excellent RDS. It was originally intended to part of the German IdZ program Kit.
