Hi all, I recently acquired an FN-49 in 7x57. I’ve never had one before and I have a few questions. Regrettably, this one is missing the magazine. I saw that numrich has mags in 8x57(which my initial research says it should be pretty close). Does anyone have any experience with those numrich mags? They’re a repro, so I figured I’d ask. Also, are there any issues with using commercial ammo in these rifles? And lastly, are there any special considerations for loading for an FN-49? I reload for basically everything I shoot, just wasn’t sure if there was anything I needed to do specific to the FN-49. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ! |
| Mags good luck , try to find original, pull bolt apart make sure it has the 2 piece pin. If not don't shoot it they break then go cyclic. Loading is fair straight forward I'll try to find the articles I've saved for mine. Very fun to play with. |

I used to own both a .30-06 and an 8mm FN-49. I still own the .30-06. The magazines for both rifles were identical. I see no reason not to shoot commercial ammo, or reloaded ammo for that matter. I've shot plenty of both in mine. |

Had a Venni 49 years ago in a Fajen stock, bayonet lug ground off (mods before I got the rifle) and used a B Square rear sight mount (Leuplod 3x M8 scope). I reloaded for mine too. Once I adjusted the gas for correct function, I would turn the gas plug up front from "A" to "G". The grenade setting would close off the gas and made the gun a straight pull rifle at the bench. This saved my nickeled 7x57 brass from getting dinged and lost on the range. Back to A when I went hunting. So, if you come across SN 1964 that was once mine. Believe FN only made 3000 in 7x57. |

Well, I figured a couple small things out so here’s an update. I couldn’t find a known 7x57 magazine. I had to order something else from Numrich(I have a gunsmith shop) so I decided to give their reproduction 8x57 magazine a try. I had to tweak the follower a little bit. But it feeds and locks open, so I think we’re probably ok. I haven’t tried to load a couple in it yet, because I was just setting the gas system so far. Mine does have the 1pc firing pin. But it’s still in really good shape, no damage, doesn’t bind or anything. I’m Still going to replace it, hence why I’m only really single loading for now(and checking the bolt before every round). I would like to find the proper flash suppressor for it as well. But so far so good! |
