Just purchased a FN M249S Para in FDE and I have a question about the linked Ammo, as long as its 5.56 can I use any linked ammo or does it have to be a specific one? also what's the best place to buy ammo for the M249S? thanks in advance.. |

You can technically use any 5.56 ammo. I would stick with military loads such as M193, M200 blanks, or M855. Most people buy links separately and then hand link ammo they already have or like. |

The military links you buy are typically used. That's not an issue except the dry lubricant they had on them has been worn/washed off. I have found using Hornandy One Shot case lube on the links before linking makes it easier to link and easier on the gun stripping the rounds. Do yourself a favor and buy one of these. Its worth 10X what you pay for it when you shoot beltfeds. Don't get the roller ones, and only buy one that is long enough to pick them standing up and has a release. Amazon Link magnet  |

Buy links, stick in wolf 223. Will run. Yeah, no more wolf. But buy surplus links, stick in your ammo of choice, and brrrrt. Only nutsacks I've seen were 50. 100 is a big ole pain, not a nutsack, but not as bad as the plastic 200 drum. |

Typically like anything else the fewer you buy in one go the more expensive they tend to be, the more you buy the cheaper they usually are. The links are not necessarily disposable, and if you can reclaim your links you can keep using them if you keep them lubed. As for the whole box vs nutsack thing, the 100rd nutsacks are the easiest to manage on the gun. The 200rd nutsacks are easier to manage than the 200rd boxes, and easier to load. If you absolutely have to run a plastic box look at getting some of the green Minimi boxes instead of the black US boxes. The green Minimi boxes still fit and work, but they are slightly differently shaped (shorter but wider) and their lids and feed lips are easier to manage IMO. Plus you can usually find them for around +/- $35 each. |
