I didn't know this was a thing until I saw it at my local Scheels. Seems almost perfect with the small loop and straight stock, but why no threaded barrel like nearly every other model outside the classic series...? The 1895 Guide Gun has a threaded barrel and the same MSRP.

| Could be just what they had on hand or could be some distributor exclusive. It is weird how they change up the specs. At least they offer the SBL so if you have to have threads there’s an option. |

Picked up at 1894 in 357 at the last show for $899. Been holding out for a 44 but that price was too good to pass up. Put a Burris Fastfire on in it; it's this year's deer rifle. Ruger is making a damn nice lever gun. They had to completely retool the line, apparently the machinery they got from Marlin was pretty well worn out. Zero interest in suppressors. None. Most of my shooting crew are likewise not into them. The only ones that have jumped hard are all LEO. |

Seriously the quietest thing around. But for hunting, downloaded .357 or 38spl to make it super quiet probably isn’t the best idea. Full power .357 sound great through a can too. You should try it if you have a chance. You might change your mind about it. |

But I'm not jumping through the hoops or paying the coin until then. The 1894 is sweet handling rig. I don't see adding weight and bulk as a good thing. |
| I consider it future proofing. You don't have to use a suppressor, and the threading isn't really an issue if you don't use it, but you have the option. It seems Ruger is making most of the Marlins threaded outside the classic series. I think this is a good move, but not threading this guide gun model seems a miss. I guess this is the first run of these as the 44 mag version isn't out yet so who knows if they will start threading them later. |

One difference could be that this model (and the classic 1894) have the barrel band where the slb and trapper have the handguard retainer. I know barrel band rifles can still be threaded, but maybe it’s more work?? I’m sure Ruger/Marlin just wanted something clsssic looking. |
| It really looks like they phoned it in on the 1894. My guess it is just due to what they had on hand for parts. I'm interested to see how many models they end up making standard. |
