I'm thinking about doing the same if I wind up getting an MP5 clone of some kind. Currently I've got a Spuhr stock and TA33 on my PTR91, and it works well. My AP53 has a low ring mount on pic rail for my Aimpoint Comp M3, and while it works, the dot is right at the top of the front sight hood. I'm debating getting another Spuhr stock for it and going to a standard height mount to clear the sights entirely, but the ultra low mount like you have is pretty interesting. I think I want to try one of those next.

OK, Im new to the roller delay system and clones of the HK guns. Bought a MAC5. Put a RB frt in it. Probably should have test fired it first, but I didnt. Also put in the paperwork to SBR first too lol. Got the chance to fire it today. First mag went perfect in both semi and frt mode. Subsequent mags, less than perfect. Multiple times per mag, it would extract but fail to eject the empty, jamming it up. Stripped it at home, looked on line for causes. Extractor number 1 answer. Watched video on how to check Extractor tension. Hmmmm. Seems its hit or miss whether the Extractor claw snaps completely over the rim. It will snap in to the bolt face and sometimes the Extractor just barely has a grip on the rim, others its fully on. Since the brass isn't being left in the chamber, im thinking the Extractor is out of spec. Just out of curiosity, I put 10 rounds in a mag and hand cycled it through, making sure the bolt got full speed travel on every cycle. I did this several times, varying the speed that I opened the action. Didnt matter. Yanking the bolt hard resulted in rounds going about 5 feet except for the ones that remained in the action and tied things up. Cycling the action slowly resulted in rounds that popped out to the right less than a foot, but did clear the ejection port. Occasionly, looking in the the ejection port as I slowly pulled the charging handle rearward, I could watch the round be pulled out of the chamber, remain attached to the bolt face, but when it hit the Extractor, it just popped loose and spun around while remaining in the action, jamming things up. I did this to eliminate binding components slowing the action as a cause. So, am I on the right track with a bad Extractor? Its really the only thing that makes sense to me, but Im a complete noon with these things, and worse, a noon with a clone of one of these things. ![]() |

That's the weak spot in HKs, particularly the mp5. Before you go putting new extractors and ejectors in, try the cheap part first. |

That's the weak spot in HKs, particularly the mp5. Before you go putting new extractors and ejectors in, try the cheap part first. I already ordered H&K made ejector, extractor and extractor spring. Hoping one or all takes care of the issue. That first mag ran great and im hooked. Ill get it going if it kills me lol Edit: Saw a video of a guy having issues getting his RB FRT to run in a clone. He noticed that the FRT cassette was kind of loose in the housing. Side to side was tight, but with the safety lever installed, tge entire cassette could rock, pivoting around the safety lever. Took mine apart, and sure enough, quite a bit of seesawing around the safety lever. Used some folded up tinfoil and made shims and put them front and back, building up thickness to where there was no rocking of the cassette and the safety lever doesnt drag (got the shims a little thick and when assembled, there was a noticeable drag when rotating the safety). With the new ejector, and extractor and spring that is in route, im hoping this thing will run. Edit 2 After shimming the trigger pack to no movement, I redid the hand cycled test. Before, it would fail to eject at least 2 out of 10. Did 10 rounds 3 times, varying the speed from slow to fast. No failures to eject. Loaded a full 30 rounds. Hand cycled them as fast as I could pull the charging handle back. No failures and all were ejected with good distance. Will be a couple of days before I can actually fire it (just started prep for colonoscopy tomorrow morning. Fun) Ill update when I do. |
| Oops, I totally missed that you had an FRT. Does it have the ejector as part of a drop-in unit? Not familiar with them. |

Will be a couple of days before I can actually fire it (just started prep for colonoscopy tomorrow morning. Fun) Ill update when I do. Tried some hollow points. One 30 round mag of 124 grain HST. My son did a mag dump, and it cycled 28 rounds. The 29th round failed to feed and pushed the bullet slightly back in the case. He pulled the charging handle and ejected it before I got a look at what stopped it. Magazine maybe, or just dont expect 100% reliability with hollow points? Edit After some research, it is indeed a magazine problem. For the benefit of anyone who, like me, doesnt already know this, apparently all the clones are made with 1st generation type magazines. Early on, H&K wasnt concerned with feeding hollowpoints. Later on, law enforcement types wanted to use the MP5 with hollowpoints, so 2nd gen mags have a redesigned follower and feed lips. If you want reliability with hollowpoints with your MP5, German made H&K mags are likely the best option. |

Should have my paper work back soon. Does anyone have a lead on someone that makes a handguard/foregrip similar to this but for a full sized? Attached File |

Some have reported improved functionality with non-HK magazines after installing German or XP springs. I picked up a a set of Wolff XP springs but haven’t tried it yet, mostly because disassembling the magazines are a bit of a pain and I’ve been procrastinating.
