Any ideas on age of this thing? Butt pad looks nothing like my 180 series mini.

180 series is pretty much a different gun than what came afterwards.
I sell firearms produced by the finest child labor in the world, be it Filipino, Muslim, Mormon, Arizonan, or Texan.

180 series should have curved butt plate, possibly of metal.

Suspect P.O. cut stock and installed a "flat" Ruger butt plate. Unknown how much the stock was shortened, if at all.

Much of the difference between 180 series stock and later series stocks is in the fore-end, with the 180 fore-end being slimmer and shallower.  180 series stock won't fit later series Minis.

Thanks for all the help so far.   Checking out that thread now.  


I’ve actually got two that match but one has a big chip out of the heel of the butt stock.   Maybe they are “custom”.

I have that exact same butt plate on my Mini-14 Ranch.  Its serial number is 187-57xxx, and according to Ruger it was manufactured in 1986.  It also has a 1:7 twist rate which is nice.
