Hello, I've just bought PVS 14 with AG tube. Image is pretty clear IMO, bud center of image looks a little bit brighter. What do you think about it? And there are also some tiny blemishes in image. It can be dirt or blems in tube, but I can't estimate if it is only dirt or tube blems. This image was fired in pretty high light scenario (about full moon). This is only detail of tiny blems, there are visible only in high light scenes. Thanks a lot for any input. |

If it is any consolation, what you see in your image (the black spots) are only cosmetic, i.e., dust in the tube or between the intensifier and the lens internally. If you get a copy of the Army TM 11-5855-306-10 Operator's Manual for the AN/PVS-14 it covers all of the functions and the Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) for acceptable conditions. We used this TM in the Army to do our checks on our NVDs every time before we used them. As to the black spots you're seeing, the TM states on page 2-28, SECTION 2-4 under INSPECTION CRITERIA FOR PROPER IMAGE INTENSIFIER OPERATION, PARAGRAPH C. COSMETIC BLEMISHES, SUBPARAGRACH (3) :
Black Spots. These are cosmetic blemishes in the image intensifier or dirt or debris between the lenses. Black spots are acceptable as long as they do not interfere with viewing the image. No action is required if this condition is present unless the spots interfere with the operator’s ability to view the image or to perform the mission. So for military missions your tube is a GO. That being said, many builders/companies "grade" their NV tube (not the generation 1, 2, or 3) by how many black spots are visible and charge a higher price for fewer "blemishes". This is better explained at http://www.nightvision4less.com/education-center-night-vision-tubes-grades.aspx. They explain how they charge more for better quality (fewer blemishes) tubes. Fewer blemishes usually equals higher price. Hope this helps.

Okay want to check to see if i am halfway right about what I've just purchased. Made by Harris, 2011, 37th week, MX-110130D/UV ( what does the UV mean?)
Im still somewhat confused by the terms Pinnacle. Pretty sure it is auto-gated and thin filmed, but any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

This should be pretty easy. Only markings on it. IMAGE INTENSIFIER ITT NIGHT VISION S/N 1 313399 F9800DTG2 Has a VERY faint whine when powered on. |

Here's a new one for the group:
SN 112199 DC 9251 K&M 2220 This tube is one of the tubes in a Sentinel that I was sent a pic of by another leo in a different dept. I'm hoping to get the info for the other tube as well. The strange part is that in the picture he sent me, the tube housing is covered in translucent red plastic...at least the end facing the user's eye. |

Hi All, Any suggestions what tube this is ? Its an older tube, but for me -overseas- it's a very nice performer. Very curious what this is! Did my best, but if no picture is visible; no markings on the side, no sticker on top.

Hello all, I have a question that I've been wanting to ask as I've read through this thread. I am curious how do I know if a tube is a civilian tube or military? I see pictures on google and here and ebay that have an NSN, contract # etc. Are these ones that were a military contract overrun and sold on the civilian market? Thanks! |

Hello gentlemen, I have some interesting tube here I think. In this thread folks are talking about PSU of PVS 14 giving low voltage to the tube. I was interested in my PSU if it is giving OK voltage because last time I was out in the forest my tube seemed little bit dark to me, but it was only star light there. So I tested out PSU voltage and it gives out 2,998V (Battery has 1,44V), so I assume voltage output on my PSU is OK. Then I cleaned contacts with isopropyl alcohol on PSU and tube. Next I measured resistance on tube pigtail and thi was interesting. Between parallel leads there is almost 0,7MOhm resistance and NO POTs, but on PSU board there is 125kOhm resistance between pigtail connectors. So I assume that POTs are somewhere on PSU. I never seen pigtail like this withnout POTs with only 2 leads to IIT and some capacitor (probably) between them. What do you think about it? does anybody know what type of IIT and PSU is this and why is that different? I am just curious. Thank you guys. Tube is: W9124Q-05-D-0821 CAD 1538

Hi, I have a tube that I would like to have i.d.ed
On the image intensifier it says ITT 272867-9-062 S/N 174827 Couldn't actually lift out the image intensifier for some reason, seemed to be glued in for some reason (or maybe I just suck at this). Anyone know when it was made and the omni number? Thanks in advance. |

First post here, I have an older NVPS-10 that doesn't work, the tube flickered for a while and now it will not do anything. It is in a plastic sleeve, with only a serial number visible. To remove it I will need to remove the wires, but I am not really sure I can solder them back well later. From checking here I kinda identified the tube as MX-18281 - am I right? Is there somebody who repairs tubes? Is it worth it to do it?

Is the serial number engraved on the power supply the actual correct serial number for ITT tubes? Or is it just a power supply serial number? I have seen tubes with stickers and tubes without. I have a tube with a KM power supply and it doesn’t have a data decal like most I have seen. I also have an identical tube that says ITT and not KM. |

Hi, my first post!!
I took my IIT out of my PS-14 to see if it had any markings on it. It seems that it's been sanded down? Were the markings intentionally rubbed off? And of course I have no clue who made it or if I could verify the gen/gating etc... It came out of an ATN PS-14 unit. When I emailed them they said they couldn't give me any information for security reasons, stating: "With the internal information we are not allowed to provide those kinda information. I am sorry I assumed you needed the unit serviced." Anybody having info on this please share, thanks!

Hello new to NV game and bought a PVS-14 that seems to be a no name unit that was bought at a gun show. Now that I have been bitten I picked up a Armasight PVS-14/6015. I’m blind in one eye so not sure I needed the second one!!!!

Thanks :) I will get some pictures taken and uploaded later today. Setup is basically an interchangable camera lens - Gyrocam module - Intensifier - Watec Wat-902 H3 supreme b/w camera. I dont have any tech info on the Gyrocam yet, nor any pinout, but #FamousLastWords, how hard can it be? Just put power on it and see what happens :) |

After looking more carefully at it, i am not sure it is gyro stabilized, but rather the optical part of a gyro stabilized system. It is produced by Gyrocam, now Lookheed Martin Gyrocam, most likely after 2009, due to the CAD on the tube. I do find some matches in the NSN's, but no definitive ID on the model. Due to the Watec/intensifier feeding in from one side, and the unspecified Gyrocam module from the other side through the cubical split lens, i assume it could be a 2 sensor unit.
