APEX kits back in stock.

If I wanted to get a new stock for my kit, would any G3 stock work? Just swap over the buffer into a standard G3 stock?

However, there is an insert inside the stock body that screws to the buffer that is different. This insert cannot be removed from the HK21 stock because of the two "pin holders" near the rear of the stock. Those two non-removable cross pins inside the stock prevent swapping the insert out. With all of that said, I don't really think the insert is a big deal, and I wouldn't be afraid to at least trying a G3 stock body and see how it goes. Have you found a source for a like new G3 stock body? JT |

I would like to find a new G3 green stock body though because mine is pretty rough, and I'll be refinishing all of the other parts. So, the rough stock will look out of place on the newly refinished parts. I'm having trouble finding a new condition stock body though. They used to be a dime a dozen (like a lot of things). JT |

That’s a Vollmer 21, likely with E upgrades from RDTS. Ralph called those the 21EUG. The upgrades consisted of adding a forward assist, E type receiver reinforcement rails, two short weaver rails for optic mounting, E buffer, lengthened cocking slot to allow an E buffer. Looks right to me. CFS is being really cool about my G3 buffer and sending me another stock/buffer assy like that one.
The way the old one is beat up may explain why the feed mechanism looks almost unused. My shoulder kinda aches just looking at that thing. |

So I just stumbled across this a little while ago and hadn’t heard anyone mention it before:
https://www.cryostructure.com/product/hk21-barrel-7-62mm/ A bit more than RCM’s rumored pricing. Not sure if that’s with all the hardware either but if you need one sooner, it might be an option. |

You don't need that insert. I have already been testing the buffer from my kit against other buffers in my ptr91 using multiple different stock set ups. HK parts has excellent condition HK g3 green stocks for like 35 bucks...it's the entire G3 assembly with recoil rod spring buffer end plate...but you can rob the stock section off it...it is a different shade of green then the FMP stocks though. If you want black just get a PTR stock section for like 40 bucks...they look exactly like an HK stock section. My rough non scientific initial testing in my ptr91, the 21 buffer seemed better to me then the stock buffer, better then bill Springfield buffer I have, and also felt better then an HK parts msg90 us made buffer. My g3 heavy buffer felt maybe a little better then the 21 buffer, but I have to compare some more, it was a negligible difference at best. These 21 buffers have the same ass end as a G3 heavy buffer, but the piston part that goes in and out is much shorter then a G3 heavy. |

I pulled the trigger and ordered a clubfoot stock from HK parts ($230) and a surplus black grip ($8). A little spendy on the stock, but I think it will be worth it in the end. Not just for looks but also when shooting, its nice to be able to pull the stock into your shoulder with your off hand.
Its technically wrong but I dont care |

I is welder now.
Got some coaching from a friend today and ended up with some okay practice welds within an hour. Still some too hot and some too cold…some too fast and some too slow… Lots more practice to go but it’s a start… Attached File |

My APEX tripod arrived today. The condition is much, much better than the one shown in their pictures online. There is zero corrosion, the parts all move freely, and the paint is overall intact, the back-pads are not damaged, no dents, the clear leveling bubble is not broken, and the canvas carrying straps were included. Heck, there's hardly any dirt on it to clean up. The tripods are pricey, but once APEX is out of stock, they will likely be more of a "name your price" type item. Based on what I received, if you are on the fence, I'd order one.

Do these use G3 extractors?
One of may kits came missing and extractor and spring. If it's just G3 parts I won't bother CFS. |

is anyone on here going to do a build and show us step by step on this? maybe some videos like from start to finish? like separating the trunion?
I think it would be a big help to us all so we can all build one. I know there is some pretty skilled guys on here. I have wanted to do one of these for years. |

Anyone have info on checking bolt gap on these? I know almost nothing about HK's.
Does the barrel need to be installed when checking bolt gap? If I check mine with no barrel, there is zero bolt gap, and still some play between the bolt and trunnion. Is this bad? |

How hard will it be to make/quasi convert one of these to a 21-a1 model ?
I wouild like to add the Clubfoot stock and the carry handle that the a1 version came with. |

As you have found, you'll have no gap with no barrel. With the gun fully assembled and unloaded, close the bolt and pull the trigger. Use a feeler gauge to measure the thin gap between the bolt head and the bolt carrier. JT |

View Quote It would take some custom work to install a carry handle (there's no mounting point for one on these kits), but it could be done. The clubfoot stock would not be a problem. A forward assist could be added, but the bolt carrier would need to have the notches cut in it for the forward assist to work. The newer style mounting points for the upgraded scope mount could be added easily, too. Of course all of these upgrades would add a LOT to the overall cost of the project. And at the end of the day, the swing down feed mechanism is what the "real" upgrade on the A1 and the E guns is. And that swing down feed mechanism isn't happening on these kits. JT |

It shares some receiver similarities with the 23a1. Here is a discussion about it on HKPRO. If anyone could tackle such a project to build that transitional 21a1, it’s you JT…. |

View Quote Personally I’d skip the carry handle. It adds bulk and tends to peen the receiver in the right side when allowed to spring closed. But if you must have it, you’ll need the support weldnent, handle, axle, e-clip, and spring. The 21 and 21e carry handles are out of stock at RTG. They have the 21A1. The type of handle really relates to where on the gun the mounting support is welded. https://www.robertrtg.com/store/pc/HK21-MOUNTING-SUPPORT-FOR-CARRY-HANDLE-219p6059.htm https://www.robertrtg.com/store/pc/HK21-A1-CARRY-HANDLE-NEW-GERMAN-219p5613.htm https://www.robertrtg.com/store/pc/HK21-CARRY-HANDLE-AXLE-NEW-AXIS-PIN-219p6087.htm |

Its part of the actual carry handle, NOT the part that gets welded to the receiver. If you buy the carry handle, it already has that part. Thats probably why its only $5. |

It has to be correct to which ever version of the handle one goes with. looks like RTG has the 21 axle i noticed HK Parts has the 21 spring. The carry handle seems like it would be, well...handy. I'm curious what the weldment that it attaches to on the gun looks like. Surely it couldn't be too hard to make one.
What are you guys doing for the reinforcing rails? I see HK parts has them back in stock now but damn they are spendy. BPP has them listed but someone on WG mentioned they don't really have them in stock. |
