I bought an MCX with a 5.5” barrel and I’m not sure why I bought it. I’ve been eying the 11.5 upper for a couple of years and I’m thinking that’s the route I want to go. Is it worth it? |

Worth it in what regard? It's a lot more expensive than an AR, and it's really only got two tricks, along with some moderate durability upgrades, which are unlikely for you to benefit from unless you've worn out receivers or broken several bolts. Folding stock, and the receiver has a longer rail for mounting a LAM. Otherwise, everything it has can be replicated for less. LMT MRP gives you a monolithic upper with similar barrel swap capability, for example. The MCX is both more expensive, and heavier than an equivalent AR. All replacement components are also expensive. It's got more utility in an arms room than for an individual citizen, really. |

I have one on an AR lower, I got a deal by being a SIG connect member. It was still pricey, it is heavy ( not terribly ) and the recoil stroke is weird, not bad just different. I debated getting a 8.5 300 or the 11.5, at this point I wish I had gotten the 300. Why no real reason at all, I bet if I had gotten the 300 I would probably be saying I wish I had gotten the 5.56. AKA its not a OMG best thing since sliced bread thing. Yes being able to fold the stock is cool, but even folded its only like 3 inches shorter than my 8.3 300 AR with the stock collapsed. So a lot of money to fold and not really be any real amount shorter for something like a truck gun use. |
