I picked this up the other day. It's one of the new James River BM62 "tankers". The receiver is one of their new billet ones, so hopefully it's good to go. It seems well put together, still haven't had a chance to shoot it however.  I'm still looking for a gunsmith willing to either attempt to shorten a tricompensator I've got, or just cut it off and thread it 5/8x24 so I can put a flash hider on there. The tanker Garand I had a long time ago threw an impressive fireball out of the muzzle, I'd like to mitigate that with this rifle. So far no one locally wants to tackle the project. Maybe I need to try a machine shop. I'd like to remove the middle part, between the lines. Attaching the original comp/hider to the stub is probably cost prohibitive, but I don't see how just cutting it off, and threading it would be much of a problem

The BM62 muzzle devices were basically just booster chambers. You could cut off the flash suppressor and compensator parts (and may as well do the lug, too, at that point since I don't think it would be functional anymore) and have something shorter and functionally the same as the muzzle device used on the BM62. It would be useful to refer to a cutaway drawing of the tricompensator. It shows the delineations. |

Both my BM59 builds will run without the Tri comp and just a unthreaded short muzzle from Standard parts. It is indeed a booster, it probably matters more when dirty, etc. but they may run fine without it. I was hoping to thread these short muzzle nubs and fine a suitable short brake but never did. I too prefer the look of the tri-comp but the length on a Para stock version is too much. Not as much liking the short 3" BM59E brake and Finding a real QD para muzzle device is not easy, |
