I am considering getting one to deal with dogs on my property, not Zombies or space cadets on mind-altering drugs and related scenarios. I want lighter weight, lighter recoil, and enough thump to kill dogs at 25' or more. How does this shotgun handle? Is it easy to carry and use? For ammunition, I will likely use #4 Buck defensive loads and various slug loads |

They work well, with the provision that once in a while a new gun balks in the feed system and needs to be sent back to the factory for warranty repair. Once working they work very well with no problems. You will get the usual Kel-Tec haters who heard about the early problems when the 12 gauge KSG was new. If needed Kel-Tec has an excellent and fast warranty system. They carry easily with a sling and depending on how carried they're fast into action, and put out some serious fire power. Bullpup shotguns are a little clumsy to load, but with the double magazine you don't have to reload very often. Due to the design they can be fired for the first shot with one hand so you can open doors and move around while ready to shoot. Contrary to haters, these are sturdy reliable guns made of high grade nylon base polymers and steel. Be cautious about accessorizing the KSG.... some options like extended magazine switches can be a trip back to the factory if you happen to catch or bump it and break it off. The switch is held by a tiny Allen bolt that if broken off, there's no method I know of of extracting it short of the factory. There's really no need to replace the plastic magazine followers, they work 100% and are thick material. There used to be some instructions on how to do a fluff and buff on the KSG on the Kel-Tec forum, but it got lost. Also, don't disassemble the trigger group...there's nothing in there that needs or will benefit from any work and reassembly can be very difficult. You can install a different trigger, but the stock trigger is already the best ever put in a bullpup gun. If you insist, Mcarbo sell the trigger and have a video on disassembly. Don't disassemble the magazine tubes unless you just have to. The inner caps are Loctited and disassembly requires a special tool. The Kel-Tec's are actually very slightly shorter then a Shockwave type gun, and the Kel-Tec's have an actual buttstock to give much better control and hits on target. They also have a much larger magazine capacity even in the KS7. The KSG .410 holds 10 rounds. The Shockwave types can't be fired like a long gun, but can't be fired like a pistol either. The Kel-Tec's can be fired with one hand for the first shot, but give the more solid brace of a buttstock. |
