I am having a hell of a time finding the right buffer spring and buffer combo for this this to get it running right. I’m not sure if there is something else I should be doing.
I figured out what gas setting makes it cycle all the way.
So then I’ve tried the XP red painted spring, a tubbs flat wire spring, and a standard carbine spring.
For buffers, I’ve tried a hydraulic AR-10 buffer (standard length), an H, H2, H3, and a pivoting steel H3 weight buffer. I either get one round, and the next doesn’t load, or I get one round, the next loads but doesn’t lock. Occasionally I get a three round burst, then the next round doesn’t lock. Should I up the gas and try again? The action is clean and smooth. It really drags trying to strip rounds from the belt.
Any suggestions?

Did you contact the manufacturer?

Did you go through the break-in period with the supplied buffer?

I've been having some intermittent issues with the bolt not locking after firing. I was using .223 Rem when 5.56mm was recommended. I also lubed the links a bit and so far it seems to be helping.

I'm still in the break-in so I'm taking it slow, becoming used to the operation. I have not reach out to the company yet since I don't see the problems as insurmountable.

I’m just over 400 rounds now.
Yes, first 200 were with the included buffer and spring.
I have not contacted the manufacturer yet. I figured I’d see if anyone here had dealt with this first.
I considered oiling the belt. I just figured I’m not going to want to do that every time. So I’d like to get it to run without that.

What length buffer tube are you using on your lower?

It’s the A5 length buffer tube with standard length buffers.

It's really important to read the manufacturer's instructions to the letter, especially in weapons like these with a complex mechanical function. Once you've established a baseline, you can experiment from there.

Reading your post, it seems you've been using the wrong springs. You indicated you used the XP red painted spring, a tubbs flat wire spring, and a standard carbine spring.

The manual advises "All configurations require either the supplied LIMA SIX Black Spring (KAK 308 carbine) or a Springco Orange spring."

Your post helped me as well- in re-reading the manual carefully, I see that I misread the instructions and probably using the wrong buffer.

First thing I'll mention is everything is covered under a lifetime warranty, so rest assured we'll this running regardless of what it takes.

To start, is this a home build, or factory upper? If its a home build, please provide all of the build specs:

1. Barrel length and gas system length
2. Gas port size
3. Hammer and trigger make/model
4. Make/model of super safety

Also:

5. What ammo was used?
6. We also have an instructional video on lubrication, was this followed?

The buffer configurations you mentioned are not supported, especially when using a super safety or FRT. The best configuration is a sprinco orange spring with a proper H3 buffer (aluminim body with 3 tungsten weights). Any other type of buffer and you will likely get bolt bounce.

When troubleshooting, always start by getting it to run with a standard mil spec hammer and trigger in semi auto before attempting to use any type of FRT.

Lastly, there is a huge amount of knowledge available on our site here: https://limasix.com/tech-info/

That’ll help. The reason I switched recoil springs is because the most common issue I’m having is the bolt not going all the way into battery. Sometimes I just have a half inch to go, sometimes it’s stops half way. I figured the higher powered springs would force it to close. But that hasn’t worked out.  Yes this is a home build.
1. It’s a 16” chrome lined heavy barrel with a mid-length gas system.
2. I drilled it to .094 (my memory sucks but I think that’s what was specified for that length and gas system).
3-4. I have the Partisan trigger in it now. I had a standard trigger in it to start. I didn’t notice a difference but I will switch back. The original trigger I had in it, I believe was CMMG. I have some Colt and FN auto triggers. I’ll try one of those with a semi selector.
5. Ammo has been Federal 55 grain 5.56. I have a case of SS109 I’m about to try.
6. Yes, everything was lubed to specifications. I broke the gun down at 200 and 300 rounds and cleaned it thoroughly, re-greased and oiled it.
I also have the Hydra Reciever with the L6 mag/mount thing.
I’ve got 15 rounds left of 55 grain. That’ll put me at 500 rounds. I’ll switch triggers and back to a H3 and the spring it came with and see how that goes.

One other thing, what gas block are you using?

At 500 rounds you are way past the break in, so you wont fix anything by just continuing to shoot.

If you continue to have issues please reach out to me directly at [email protected] and I will help you get it running.

It’s the Rifle Speed gas block with the smaller pin in it. It seemed about 6 was the right setting. I just went back to 8 just to be sure it was getting gassed.
I just went through those last 15 rounds. It did better with the buffer spring it came with, H3 buffer and milspec trigger but it still has trouble stripping those rounds from the belt. Only three rounds didn’t lock in this time out of those 15.
I’ll run some SS109 this week and report back.

Have you tried going to a higher setting on the riflespeed? Its not uncommon to run it all the way to 12 with weaker ammo.

Being undergassed can present as failure to feed...if the bolt is not going all the way to the rear it may not have enough inertia to strip the round from the belt.

If you think about it, running the riflespeed on 12 is the same as just running a regular non-adjustable gas block. The gas port chart is sized appropriately so that it can run with a regular gas block and not be overgassed. The riflespeed comes into play if you are running a suppressor, or if you want to tune it down to when it *just* cycles for the lowest recoil. But theres nothing wrong with running the riflespeed at 12 and that doesnt indicate a problem.

I went through 20 rounds of federal green tip a little while ago. Gas was set on 12. Same thing. It chambered a round every time. Every few rounds didn’t lock in though. I can manually push the bolt forward and lock them in. But it’s still stopping short. I’m thinking maybe I should take the barrel out and drill it out a little bit more. The next size drill bit up might be enough gas. If it’s too much I can adjust down with the gas block.

I wouldn't go making the gas port bigger than the chart. Even if that fixes the problem, its just masking another issue.

At this point, based on what you are telling me its either gas port alignment or you just need your carrier swapped. We've seen a few carriers with tight cam pin slots cause issues. I'd be happy to either swap your carrier or take your build in for troubleshooting. I really dont want you wasting any more time or ammo troubleshooting this.

Please send me an email at [email protected] and we'll get you taken care of.

To keep anyone following this thread up to date, I was sent a replacement bolt and carrier group. So far, that seems to be the fix I needed. It’s run good in semi auto. Haven’t done much with the FRT yet.

Update to my update…
After a few more things to work on, it’s now running 100%.
Harvey at Lima Six helped me out a lot. The customer service from them is second to none. This thing is so cool. I’m definitely going to have to pick up a couple more cases of ammo.
Thank you!!!
