Just a quick overview of my MAC 5K.
Took it out with 9-30rd mags, 1-50rd drum, 1-20rd mag and then put at least another 50rds thru it. Around 400rds or so, not suppressed. Some 124gr and 115gr. Mags were KCI, Magpul drum, MKE, and MAC. I don't think I had any failures with the MAC mags but I could be mistaken.
Overall, I probably had about 8 failures or so. I didn't keep an exact count. However, after experiencing a few, I noticed the magazine was dropping down a bit. Apparently I wasn't getting a good seat on mag so I started tapping it on the bottom after inserting but I still had some issues.
Most failures seemed to be a failure to eject followed by a failure to feed as the fired round was still present. Had a couple of normal failures to feed but I think that was due to the mag seating issue.
Those issues aside, it did run better than my first outing with my AP5. I have since put a HK ejector, extractor and springs for each in my AP5. It runs much better now. I did order the same parts for the MAC 5k so I'm hoping for the same results.
For the bolt gap folks, MAC 5k is 0.010" and AP5 is 0.012"
The Good:
- It didn't do too bad and did better than my AP5 initially did.
- I don't think I had any failures while using the two included MAC mags. The mags seem well made.
- The price was right. Got mine under 1k shipped and transfered.
- The case and included things were nice. Better than the stuff I got with my base model AP5.
- Mags seem to have slightly less wobble in this compared to my AP5
- It came with a Copper colored extractor spring unlike the AP5 which had a dark colored one.
The Bad:
- Some of the finishing seems worse than the AP5. I'm not talking about the paint as much as some of the parts. Some scrapes and stuff around the mag well that was covered over with the finishing.
- Charging tube is not centered. My AP5 is perfect, the MAC not so much. I'll put a pic below. Doesn't seem to cause an issue. Sights may need slightly adjusted but it wasn't bad.
- Part of my mag release issue I found when I came back home and cleaned it. When pressing the mag release, it was sticking and not returning back to the proper mag locked in position. I took the mag release assembly apart and found the paddle connection piece to be machined very shittaly. The part that actually goes thru the release push button hole had a taper to it and it hung up on the frame hole. A little sanding and it was good.
- For some reason my 3 lug adapter (KAW Valley I think) I have on 9K doesn't fit on this. It fits fine on my AP5 and MPX but not on this MAC 5k. I do have another 3 lug adapter that does fit on here. It's just a bit odd. I think the lugs may be a bit off but like I said, one of my adapters does fit.
