I'd say $6k qualifies as gouging on a $4399 MSRP gun.

Has there been a winner for this contract or is this still active?

I think it's still ongoing, but the last I heard is that they're in the user trials phase, which is the final phase right before the contract is awarded.

1Q 2023 is supposed to be when the contract is awarded, so based on that, I would think it's really close (possibly within the next couple weeks).

Does anyone know if the grip is the same one that came on the Virtus? Or is it interchangeable with any AR pistol grip? Thanks

Ahh good catch - fiscal.

So disregard what I said - when does the military's Q1 fiscal begin? October?

Would be really interested to see the barrel length and caliber submission for the MRGG-S contract. I’m wondering if it’s a 20” 6.5 Creed. I haven’t come across any ballistics data or any other information from Sig around the 6.8x51mm round out of anything longer than a 13” barrel.

I can only imagine that 6.8x51mm looks great in a 20” though…

Last I heard LMT and Larue made the downselect for MRGG.  There was a reshoot due to bad ammo and KAC and FN were added along side LMT and Larue. But that is just rumors.

Also, didn’t mean it to “sound” as terse as it reads.

Obviously, I can only say so much about certain things, but can let you guys know if you’re trending in the right direction(s).

It'd be great if you could just tell PA to keep the ammo and only order the SPEAR.......

That'd bring it down closer to MSRP.

That does include 200 rounds of SIG Elite ball, and 200 rounds of SIG Elite OTM ammo and 5 20rd Pmags, but yeah, it's right at a 20% markup over MSRP on the Spear.

Wow and I thought my 16 inch Spear LT rail shift was bad. How is the military ok with this? Sig's T&E seriously needs some work, I don't understand how you miss this.

@Coregon does it really shift like this? Or is something screwy going on in the video? Like improperly installed handguard? Thanks

Mine and others Spear LTs do it, Arisaka already made a fix for the LTs. Sig doesn't currently call out a torque spec for the handguard screws, but even at 40 in/lbs on my 16 inch I can cause this to happen to an extent.

I just pulled a 14.5" Geissele URGI out of the safe and did the same thing as in that video.  I'm by no means an Sig apologist and have shit on them in the past, but that video is not a big deal in my opinion.  When I get home, I'll check my 14.5" DD with an RISII quad on it.  I expect the quad with perform a little better, but still have some shift.  Quads are still king of the hill if you want little to no movement in your rail.

I think some things are being conflated here. The movement that the Sig's rail is experiencing is a shift of the position of the rail. This is a function of it's attachment method, not rigidity of the rail itself. A quad version would be no different.

The RISII did well as far as resisting any shift after force was applied, but is not the stiffest even compared to some M-Lok rails. Again, the resistance to shifting is because of the attachment method. The flexibility might be due to it being two parts bolted together, at least in part.

Congrats! At least you were able to grab one at MSRP (or around).

Shame they aren't 13.5" barrels, would make it easier to pin/weld and get around NFA.

Seriously. 0.7 inches added to it, I could  have dropped a FCD extended KeyMo on it and walked out the door.

Fuck the NFA. Sorry though guys, it's a guarantee that since I bought this, Saint Thomas won't eviscerate the NFA when he does the pistol brace case.

ETA: shaky arms from lifting and auto correct don't go hand in hand.
