It’s been a few years since I’ve gotten a new folder and decided it was time to splurge a bit. I typically carry ProTech and Microtech with a ZT, Emerson, and Spyderco mixed in the rotation. My favorite is the MT L.U.D.T. but it is a heavy pocket knife and sought out something lighter. I first found Montana Knife Co for their Freezout fixed blade, which was the perfect duck hunting and bird cleaning knife after years of searching for something that fit that bill. Short story long, I get bombarded by MKC marketing and jumped on the last drop of their new folder, the Montana. I prefer automatic folders and have never been great at quickly flipping a knife open and manipulating it by the thumb stud. I will say that the Montana is the smoothest and easiest opening flipper I’ve tried. It holds retention and doesn’t start opening prematurely, but when it does break it just thoughtless. I guess they use some high tech silicon nitride balls. Yes, it’s expensive at over $400 delivered but I’ve never been accused of making good financial decisions. Magnacut straight back blade, 3.25” and perfectly balanced in weight, carry, and slicing. Time will tell how it holds up. For the past week, I’ve been digging in. Extra toothy edge but no hang ups when slicing. Cheaper liner locks are not my thing but this one feels solid and I appreciate the G-10 scales on both sides. Anyone else got one yet?
