I just picked up a new Marlin 1894 SBL .44 mag and will be mounting a LPVO scope, so the rear ghost ring sight will need to be removed. I’m just not sure if I should remove the entire rear sight assembly, or just the ghost ring. The screw that attaches the entire rear sight assembly is also 1 of 4 screws that attaches the optics rail to the receiver, so it will need to be replaced. However, with the rear sight assembly removed, I suspect the screw will be too long to reinstall properly. I read elsewhere that just the ghost ring itself can be removed from the assembly by removing the windage screw and spring. This seems like a better solution but I am interested to hear what others have done. Thanks for the help. |

I use quick detach rings and a Leupold long eye relief scope on my 1895 SBL. My scope sits just in front of the ghost ring and I barely notice it when looking through the scope. It’s certainly not a big problem that would make me want to remove the sight. I’d suggest sorting out your scope and rings before removing the peep. Edit: this setup was purposeful because I wanted both options for deer hunting. In the event of an all day rain I will just take the scope off and run the sights. |

Your scope will likely be higher than is comfortable for you on that rail, but people make do. You can remove the screw and not worry about it - there are four screws plus the dovetail so one screw missing won’t matter. In fact, some rails/mounts only use 2 or 3 of the four screws. |
