I picked up a Mini-14 GB off EE awhile back. It was an older 185 Series rifle and the seller was honest and told me the bolt is not extracting fired cases and gave me a good price for it. After eceiving the rifle, I disassembled the bolt and found that the extractor plunger spring is stuck in its hole with no part of it above the lip of the hole and will not come out. It also is stuck in a manner that puts no force on the extractor plunger. In essence, the extractor is not catching the rim of the case to extract the case. I tried putting in a new plunger but it doesn’t change anything. Now here’s my dilemma, I know the design of the Mini-14 has changed over time. My bolt has the cut out for a frame mounted ejector. I don’t think I can save the bolt and finding another 185 series bolt is virtually impossible, but can I replace the bolt with another series bolt? Preferably a more modern series. I’d think you could get the extractor spring out of the bolt with a modified pick or wire. Numrich Arms have the extractor and ejector bolt parts in stock but unfortunately do not have any complete bolts. Every Gun Parts get parts kits from destroyed or seized firearms which they sell. They have several Mini 14 parts kits in stock but you have to buy the complete kit. Only other source for a Mini 14 bolt might be ebay or gunbroker for a bolt. Numrich makes no distinction between Ranch Rifle, fixed sight rifle or GB (Government Barrel). | Same thing happened to my newer Mini. Used a dental pic to rip the spring out, cleaned out channel with steel wool and oil, installed new spring and is GTG. Moisture gets in there and rusts everything. |
