I have an older Mossberg 500 with the shiny finish. I'd like to strip it somehow in order to paint it some shade of dark grey. What are some techniques to strip the finish and etch it for better adhesion? Anyone have any examples of such I'd appreciate some pics. ETA- OR... ideas on how to prep the surface as is for paining. What's a good way to scuff up the finish so paint sticks good. |

| I’ve painted my mossberg 500s. One had the gloss finish on the receiver and barrel. I wouldn’t worry about stripping the factory finish off. The aervoe and rustoleum I used adhered just fine. You could use rustoleum’s automotive self etching primer. I’ve used that primer before on a glossy finished scope and a Glock slide before. It’s a nice flat foliage green color and is a good base for the main colors you want to use. |
