Picked up a WF bern 1911 from 1915.

This is a purpose built gun vs a 96/11 conversion.

I picked up a bayonet which I thought was the correct one but it doesn't fit.. it looks like it should but the mount is slightly too small and yh barrel mount slightly too tight.

Any suggestions on what I should be looking for since apparently I'm doing this wrong?

Let me see the blade. You probably have the 1918 style bayonet.

Look for one with a forged bump/bar in the fuller. I believe that's the correct one, without checking.

I think that one should fit. I would:

-put the muzzle ring around the muzzle to see if it fits at all. Check it for roundness and dents. If you can have calipers, check the inside diameter.

-clean the hell out of the bayonet lug track in the handle. I have had many bayonets that would not fit on the first try, until I cleaned out years of grime.

I had a similar issue with my 96/11 and the bayonet I bought for it. I found that by loosening the front band a bit that the bayonet would fit fine. Something about the band being super tight was causing something to be out of alignment.

If you can find me one for a 1911 and if this one fits yours, then this one is yours for a link to a proper bayo and ill cover shipping.

I just checked my 1899 bayonet, which looks just like yours. The muzzle ring diameter is 15mm. I'm not sure why yours is different.

I am at a loss as to why his muzzle ring diameter is 14mm. I would assume it would fit a K31, as the 1918 bayonet has a 14mm ring. My 1899 fits my K31, though it is a bit loose.

<-definitely doesn't know everything.

@delemorte

I should have checked here before I responded. You may have a slight rarity.

Look closely under a light for a bushing.

First,  thanks for all the help. Really appreciate it.

Can you expound on what you mean by rarity? Like it's meant for a different rifle.

And those bayonets are pretty common. You think just picking up another resolves my immediate issue?

If so Simpsons has a stack of them and I can ask my contact over there to insure it's dimensions.

No, that it's bushed. If you read the worldbayonets link, it says that a small number of the 1899s have a bushing.

I'd try to find another one, it sounds like you just got (un)lucky.

Something is off about that bayonet you posted. The fuller looks off, almost like it was re-cut. Same with the stamp on the ricasso. I am wondering if the blade was “enhanced” by someone in Afghanistan to make it more attractive to GIs. I brought a ton back with me and early in the war they were unmolested. But it didnt take long for the local nationals to start adding “sawbacks” and incorrect marking to the stuff they had: They noticed what guys bought first and just wanted to make more. Someday I’ll start a thread with pictures of my bring backs

I guess its always possible its been modified but i dont think so. Ive got some cut 03 bayonets and its pretty obvious how they are modified. But F if i know for certain. This was imported through Simpsons from Switzerland but who knows for certain. Ive got them going through their stack of them to find me one that actually fits.

Originals are like 20 bucks a pop

Leather was shipped like that. But leather conditioner can help bring back super dry leather.

When I get home I'll show you what my 1917 holster looks like after getting some conditioner.  Not sure I have a before picture but it was dry AF.

This is a holster for a smith 1917, stamped 1918. when I got it, it was so dry and cracked I was scared to even attempt to holster the gun for fear I'd crack it further.

This is after hitting nit with conditioner. You can still see the cracks but it was neglected for so long you can barely make out the U.S. stamp on the face. But at least now it's soft enough to holster and hopefully slowed down the deteriorating.

Use a good grease like Pecard's, Obenauf's, or the one Varusteleka offers and give it plenty of time to soak all the way into the leather. It will probably take a couple coats. That holster will last another hundred years.

I saw that. I got some decent PETG-CF loaded and running a job now. I may take a break from the next part and run a few of these.

The previous clips were pretty brittle and the orientation put the layers on a pressure point, so the tabs would break.

I rotated the model and switched to a more springy material.

Either of you guys want to try one? I'll mail ya a sample you can try in your rifle.
