When i built the bench i originally didn't plan to put the bench on that wall. However, due to the fact that the previous owner put the pegboard on those 2 walls it seemed like a pretty good utilization of the space & i can also bolt the bench to the studs behind the pegboard. Also, being that the bench is 8ft long i feel that if it was any larger it may become unmanageable if i ever decide to move it. I am definitely going to add some sort of shop light to give some additional light in that extremely dark area in the basement. I may look into the the concrete sealer that you mentioned before things get too settled in. Thanks for the comments & suggestions! |

I may look into the the concrete sealer that you mentioned before things get too settled in. Thanks for the comments & suggestions! My house was built in 1910. My foundation is from stone. it is mortared and there is a poured cement floor. Some of the mortar was loose and whomever owned it prior to me painted everything a forest green color. Because it is an old house the basement humidity is higher than a poured concrete foundation with tar on the outside. What I did was remove the loose mortar and repoint the joints with new mortar. I followed this with 2 coats of Drylock white paint. I made sure to not have any holes in the mortar like there were prior to my work. This was causing air leaks where the foundation is above grade. In the winter my basement would get down to like 45 degrees. After doing all but one 8 foot section my basement is much warmer. The Drylock paint has cut down the humidity by not allowing moisture wicking in the mortar and stone to reach the basement. Also by being bright white the basement look cleaner and brighter. This is my "man cave". |

Will keep this thread and the GD one updated as I go. As I said in the GD thread, if anyone would like I can whip up some CAD drawings of the basic construction I used on this bench. Very simple yet sturdy design using only 2"x4"s and easily accomedates different lengths. |

I'm just getting started in the new house and in reloading in general. One of the previous owners built on a large garage with this little shop in the back. I inherited some older but serviceable gear and I'm now just starting with .223. As soon as my wife finishes moving the rest of her tools and gear into her shop I'll have even more space to play.
