I just found this out last night.  I ordered 2 barrels last year.  A 16" and 18" and the 16" was spot on.  I just got the 18" put together and it's a little on the short side.  So will likely need a special collar.

@SchlaffTablett sorted my WOA SPR barrel when the collar shoulder was a little off a few years back.

The WOAs were updated to the correct shoulder location last year and I have to imagine they could verify over a phone order so you don’t get prior stock.

I also don't remember, but the shoulder was off a little bit and I believe they moved it back.

What length barrel is this? I have a 16” and I currently swapped to ris III after having ris II. I want a FF RAS or seeing if the 13.2” Larue rail will fit.

Certified my AEM5 today and did a test fit.
It rotates 6 1/4 turns before locking up to the collar.
If I shim the brake out one full rotation, do you guys think that would be enough to get the 7 1/2 turns needed
or should I shim the brake out two full turns?

What’s wrong with 6 1/4 turns? I’d probably leave as is assuming the brake is timed properly.

Don't know really.
I've read that Mr. Allen says the 7 1/2 rotations is ideal.
I haven't rocksett my brake yet, just torqued lightly with a wrench.

Been a while since I've read this thread.

Ordered my second AEM5 today, the Trajectory one out of Utah... I expect it to be just as good as the one I got from Ron.

Let's see how long this Form 4 takes...

There is already a variant out there with 6.5 bore:

Hey guys, I ended up buying an AEM3 as my first suppressor and I’m looking to mount it onto my KAC SR-15 mod 2 without modifying the barrel profile as the contour is already on the skinny side for my taste. My question is, is there anybody I could contact about making a custom 1 piece over the barrel B length brake/collar that would be compatible with my barrel profile as well?

Has anyone tried one of the Allegheny gas blocks with a Hodge 13.65 handguard?  I'm thinking it will be close, but possibly doable.  Also, what barrels are you using to cut down to the required ~16.5" length?  And any gas port modification?

If my measurements are right you'll have 0.15" of the 1.1" gas block sticking out from under the handguards which is going to be super tight.  I'll take a measurement to see if that's a no-go or not. PM me if I don't get back to you

You could probably shave off a bit from the front of the handguard if it's too close

I'm also looking for barrel options to cut down to that 16.5" . If you want to shoot unsuppressed you'll very likely need to adjust the gas port, but I haven't found any size recommendations yet

Started with 20" Obermeyer SS barrels with .308 Obermeyer chambers.  John Holliger contoured them and we moved the gas port 2" forward.   I had DD make a run of 14.0 AR10 LITE Rails to go with them.  I'll likely cannibalize a few other builds to get this one together sooner than later.

@k31user

Hey Ron,

I am trying to put an AEM5 on a Criterion Core barrel - - if you aren't familiar, it has a thin, tapered profile with a 0.625 gas block diameter and the barrel is even thinner between the gas block lands and the threads

There aren't any steps on the barrel other than the front of the gas block lands

Is it possible to make a custom collar that sits in front of the step? How thin of a barrel can you make a collar?

Edit: I guess the same question goes out the @bigbore
Your website says you can't do all pencil barrels. How thin does the barrel need to be before you're no longer able to contour / make a collar?

16", trying to decide between the stock 16 barrel with mid length gas or getting an 18" chopped down with rifle length

I don't care as much about the weird look, I mostly like the balance of accuracy and weight of the core barrels, but don't want to use the Otter Creek muzzle device to mount the suppressor

Problem is the core doesn't have a 0.75" gas block, or else that would be problem solved for me.

Would it be possible to make a 0.625 ID collar that seats up against the gas block instead of relying on a barrel step?
