*** WARNING: Mystery Ranch and Ops-Core porn below ***

All my shit finally showed up. Here's how I setup the Komodo Dragon with the NICE Daypack Lid.

I bought two accessory straps from MR for $5 a pop, removed each buckle from the strap and toyed with the placement. This is what seems to work best, and you don't need anything extra to mount the Daypack Lid to this pack.

I don't know why the guys at MR tried to talk me out of this setup; it's perfect! The Lid slides around minimally when the pack isn't on your back, but once you buckle the waist belt down, everything pulls tight and it doesn't shift whatsoever. The bulk is simulated with pillows and I've got a few jackets stuffed into the Daypack Lid. It's supposed to warm up tomorrow so I'm gonna lay out all my gear, fill it up, and see where I'm at. I can't imagine this not working out as good as it seems in this mockup though.

Very pleased. Glad I spent the extra money and got what I really wanted.

The helmet gets spray-painted tomorrow.

Undecided at this point. What I need to do is pack everything up and see how much room I'm working with. I probably will buy a pair of these ATS pouches; I looked at just about everything out there and from what I can tell, those are the best fit and value for the space available on the face of the pack.

Got the bare essentials packed up to show you guys what all fits and how much room I have left.

I also changed the lower anchors out with these fixed pieces I got from Down Range Gear a while back. They're not adjustable but they're the perfect length and have WAY less bulk.

Inside is my SnugPak bag, Esbit alcohol burner and mess-kit, ENO hammock, fly, tree-straps, and room for two 96oz Nalgene canteens. There's still a little room to spare.

The NICE Daypack Lid is large enough to stow another 96oz canteen in one of the pouches.

Also painted the Ops-Core.

Hell, I think it's got slightly more room than the Snap Dragon, which is supposed to be the civvy version of the Komodo. This thing was WAY worth the extra money. I'm gonna send MR an email with these images to let them know it works great should somebody else like me come along wanting to know.

Is it like a clicky cap on/off momentary or more complicated still?

It is a strange design for momentary.  If you hold the button for just over a second it is momentary.  So if you press and hold it is momentary.  If you just tap it the light goes to bright tap again it is dim and once more it is off.  For that reason I don't think the constant ones are great for rifle work as I like to be able to flash the light quickly into the cattle car filled with enemies of the state.  They make momentary versions for the rifle but I like being able to use it for night vision work on the really dark nights or inside of interior buildings with no ambient light.  The light really shines...yes pun intended if the power is out and you are searching an interior room with no windows.  The IR light is bright enough to give great illuminations without being too overbearing in splash back.

Im not sure if they have pushed out new ones or not yet but as far as I know they had 3 flavors.  white only which was 200 lumen had different settings you can get.  white/ir which was 175/30 for white and 75/25mW IR for high/low settings.  They also make a 500 lumen white only.   I have had a couple now I have one white only and an white/IR because I like the m300v for rifle use now more than the wml....WML is a great all around entry into the IR light game.  The low settings are especially helpful as the low ir setting is something like 15 hours of run time and the white is 10 or so.  For helmet mount that means I can turn it on while packing up mags or something like that and not fear my battery will be burnt out before I am done.

How focused is the beam on the WML? I was gonna buy a SureFire M600 Fury 500 lumen but it's heavier and twice as expensive. Whatever I get will go on my Ops-Core for night shoots and nighttime mountain biking so whatever I get needs to have a less-focused beam, which is why I want the SF Fury head.

I just played with one locally. Very bright and still super lightweight.

I wish they would just do a WML that had a on/off cap and was IR only to get better IR lumen output. I would buy a a handful of them. It would cost less to have that plus a SF or Elzetta single cell white light than to buy a surefire V series.

I have one on my mid-length. I'm really satisfied with the beam concentration. I find the mix of tight focus and peripheral illumination to be ideal within the confines of my home. I've yet to try it out of doors.

Can't comment on the splash in the dark but even under industrial lighting the beam was a bright solid circle. I just picked it up off a desk, no real testing or anything.

I've got one as well.  Subjective, but I'd say it gives 'ok' peripheral illumination.   Want any pics of it?  I might be able to get my kid to help me snap a few pics as it gets dark in the next few minutes.

I almost bought one but went with the TLR-1 HL instead.

I have a tlr-1  hl and it is a great little light for the price but it doesn't have the IR function at the same price point so it doesn't have near the functionality for me in this case.   I have liked pistol lights on rifles for a long time.  the tlr-1 hl with a tape switch back pack on it is a great light.

In terms of that size and style of light for a rifle I think the WML is very very hard to beat.  I like mine in a haley offset mount you can place it exactly where it is right for your rifle.  The momentary is generally the go to as you rarely need to leave the light on and your support hand will be on the switch anyway when it is time to shoot.

For a helmet light for the price if you want ir function as well you cannot beat the constant ir/white capability of the wml.  The only thing I would change on it would be to have some kind of catch or control on the white/ir switch on the side as you can accidentally have it in the white position and that would be bad if you expect IR light and get white instead.

Most of my pistols have either tlr-1 normal or surefire 300s.  I find super bright lights on pistols to be more trouble than they are worth.  Of course there are exceptions to every rule but many of them burn batteries much faster.  More importantly is the blinding effect they can have on someone you might be identifying works too fold.  If I am using a pistol with a light most likely I am inside.  Many interior walls are white or grey and that can mean lots of splash and bounce back.  I have never truly understood the push for more and more and more lumens.  We are an urbanized people and if you are going to be engaging people likely it isn't in a dark forest or open desert it is likely going to be in a house or an ally way...Hell thats just me though...gear porn thread here is some gear porn.

the lense on the camera make the elcan look huge but yes I am generally this cool.

Helmet specs?

I was about to order the Nitecap from Crye but if I can find a cheap bump helmet I might be tempted.  I like the idea of lights and ears on the lid.

Good 'ol team wendy

wendy ltp.  I have still not played with a that crye cap so I can't give you an apples to oranges comparison.  I should be able to play with one week after next.

If you type in merica glasses on amazon they are the ones that cost 7 dollars and are prime eligible for shipping.

I was able to play with the Nitecap last fall, I liked it quite a bit.  I already ordered a push-button release mount to use with the Nitecap so that I don't have to use a tension mount, but I also have a tension mount that I'm thinking of tossing on a helmet just to have both.

I found 2 new bags in Kryptek from a Polish? company Direct Action.  I bought the bags called Dust and the Dragon's Egg.  I originally only bought just 1 and a Rush 12 in Multicam for my daughters to use when hiking but it turns out my kids love Kryptek even more than me and didn't want the MC anymore.   The one pictured is Dust and it's about the size of a Rush 12.  The Dagon's Egg is smaller and is about the size of the Grey Ghost light weight assault pack.  For some reason each bag came with a Direct Action tote bag sized just for each bag.  So a bag for your bag I guess.  The bag pictured is pretty good quality with a good amount of features but not as well thought out as the Rush 12 that it replaced.  It does look awesome though, especially the Kryptek with laser cut molle.

I can post more pictures later if anyone's interested in more details.

You're right sorry I got it mixed up.  The Dust is the smaller one the Dragons Egg is the one pictured and is the size of the Rush 12.

Damn I thought I was gonna be the first on Arfcom with the new hotness from direct action. I'll have my Dust on Monday and I'm taking it on an exercise Tuesday so I'll have an AAR in the coming days.

New guy here.

Small JPC.
-ATS triple
-TT smoke IFAK
-Canteen
-Eagle M4
-LBT utility
-TT M4  (inside cummerbund)
-Eagle M4 (inside cummerbund)

I'm new, young, and dumb. I'd appreciate commentary. Canteen is there because a hydro is hard to drive with (or is it? This is a SHTF rig); need a smaller knife; getting AR500 8x10 plates when I get a job. I'm not a Hobbit, it's just I wasn't careful in a trade and came up with a tactical bra.

And my unknown brand MICH that was in the sandbox with NSW. I want NODs. Has an OpsCore H-Nape and a mix of ZAP and stock pads.

Cheers.

Okay, well I'll say it.  You need to use the image links, not the URL in the top of the window where your page is located, to post pictures.  on each photo's page in photobucket, there's a row of icons just above the top right corner of the photo.  there's one that looks like links in a chain.  click that.  then click in the bbcode or [img] bar or whatever they use.  then paste that in your post.

ETA:  Some folks prefer a bladder, others prefer a canteen.  If stuff on the sides is okay for you driving (also get out, roll around on the ground, crawl, and generally do things/movements you wouldn't normally do on the daily) then go for it.  If you have access to a bladder to try it all with as well to compare, by all means do so.
