It installs like a normal helmet cover.  It uses double sided Velcro tabs to secure the cover to the hook circles inside your current helmet.  The pads then go right on top.

The shroud and arc rails have molded backers on the inside of the helmet cover that get sandwiched between the cover and the helmet to provide rigidity to the shroud and arc rails.  They don't move once the cover is installed.  It also comes with an extra screw and nut and has a hole through the cover right where you would normally mount your current single hole plate so you can fill the hole in your helmet and add more security to your cover.

Also of interest, apparently there is an ACH kit Ops Core is getting ready to release that you may want to check out as well.

I'm new, young, and dumb. I'd appreciate commentary. Canteen is there because a hydro is hard to drive with (or is it? This is a SHTF rig); need a smaller knife; getting AR500 8x10 plates when I get a job. I'm not a Hobbit, it's just I wasn't careful in a trade and came up with a tactical bra.

The pics aren't showing up because of your post count, only team members can see the image in the post.

That being said, looks like a really good start, I take it that you plan to remove the belt to use your IFAK?

Also, your gear cross looks really good, I like how you've got your knee pads set in the middle.

I'm able to get the IFAK with the belt on. It's velcro backed and comes off. I ran it on my left side for awhile but it was always hitting door frames and crap. Thanks for the kind words about the gear stand. I should have built that along time ago.

The fact that they are ambi and accept various types mags as well as fit various types of applications are a huge plus.  Not many mag pouches fit into this category.

My cobbled together chest rig for submission.  I had a split front Tactical Tailor chest rig that was never quite what I wanted, so I used one panel, sewed on some different attachment points, added a OSOE H harness, and voila.   Left to right, ATS GP pouch, HSGI Soft Taco with ATS Med Insert, 2 HSGI Double Decker Tacos stacked on two single Tacos (Total of 4 rifle mags), and the small pouch on the strap is a BFG Ultralight Ten Speed dump pouch.

Great 1 day/few hour pack for doing shit in humid ass weather.

A couple extra Nalgenes in each side pouch and it's good to go.

Dana and the guys at Mystery Ranch just get it when it comes to design, comfort, suspension and load distribution.
This my favorite general purpose pack for work and lugging around:

ETA: Pouchs are as follows:
Tactical Tailor E&E/Survival Horizontal pouch-Usual survival stuff
1x Mystery Ranch Med. Flat Bag-general IFAK
1X Mystery Ranch Med. Flat Bag-2 pairs of socks,1 pair drawers and T-shirt
1X Mystery Ranch Small Flat Bag-minimalist Hygiene kit
1X Paraclete triple pistol mag pouch
1 pair of OR Paclite Goretex pants
1X Sea to Summit med. Dry compression bag-extra clothes.soft shell or Goretex.

Never mind the BB shooters.

Crye makes great stuff. The JPC is my favorite minimalist rig. I try to run it as bare bones as possible.

2X ESAPI Level 4 plates.
2X Velocity Systems IIIA Kevlar Plate Backers
5 mags, a Leatherman, Surefire Z2 light, mini Blow out kit/TQ,
a couple chem lights, batteries, ear pro, pen and pad.
Motorola XTS series radio/PTT (not usually necessary)

I've owned a bunch of rucks and packs and MR's suspension/frame(Futura) with or without the BVS systems are bar none, the most comfortable I've used to date
for day in day out treks.

I imagine the NICE frames are equally as comfortable and balanced.

After owning the 3DAP and the ASAP, my primary packs will always be Tri-Zips. So much better with the super quick access to your gear.
The front zippers are beefy as hell and I am yet to hear about somebody blowing one out.

I scrolled back a couple of pages and seen your review on the Komodo.
Looks like I might have to spring for one of those as well for a longer distance sustainment pack in the future

I'll post a brief photo review of the 3DAP later when time allows.

Iron, I'm planning to add those same ATS pouches to my Komodo. Do you find them roomy enough to be worth the space and weight they take up/add?

The ATS Upright small GP Pouches are 3"x8"x3", so kinda' depends what you plan on putting in them.

If it's a Nalgene bottle, they fit PERFECT. However, a Nalgene won't fit if you're rocking some kind of Koozie over it(that water
will be lukewarm to tea hot in a matter of hours anyway).

This pic should give you an idea of how much wider they'll make your pack if you have them fully loaded, with one on each side:

If you ain't carrying Nalgenes or other water bottles in them, this is generally about how much gear they'll hold: Gloves, Mosquito net, a beanie(Arc of course)
Lazer Brite light stick, hand sanitizer, Bug bite stick:

Kinda hard to see in the pic, but there are 2 rows of PALs webbing and a couple anchor points for tying down sensitive shit inside the pouches,
which is kinda' useful.

They are constructed of lighter 500 Denier Cordura, which just kinda mooshes down when not in use.

Overall, I find them essential add-ons for water/snivel shit if no other provisions come on the side of a pack.

Damn bro, MR and Arc? I think we might be best buds.

I'm planning to use them to expand the capacity of my Komodo for extended weekend backpacking/hiking trips. I'll attach mine on the face of the pack on either side of the zipper and pull the NICE Lid down over them very much like the SATL is arranged. I figure I can keep my food, stove/mess, and other loose shit in there so I don't have to split the pack open and dig. They should fit perfectly in between the two compression straps.

The ATS Upright small GP Pouches are 3"x8"x3", so kinda' depends what you plan on putting in them.

If it's a Nalgene bottle, they fit PERFECT. However, a Nalgene won't fit if you're rocking some kind of Koozie over it(that water
will be lukewarm to tea hot in a matter of hours anyway).

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v454/IronBalaclava/DSC01628_zpsbzndpkzo.jpg

This pic should give you an idea of how much wider they'll make your pack if you have them fully loaded, with one on each side:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v454/IronBalaclava/DSC01629_zps4lkwpqfg.jpg

If you ain't carrying Nalgenes or other water bottles in them, this is generally about how much gear they'll hold: Gloves, Mosquito net, a beanie(Arc of course)
Lazer Brite light stick, hand sanitizer, Bug bite stick:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v454/IronBalaclava/DSC01631_zpsq4hyi4jh.jpg

Kinda hard to see in the pic, but there are 2 rows of PALs webbing and a couple anchor points for tying down sensitive shit inside the pouches,
which is kinda' useful.

They are constructed of lighter 500 Denier Cordura, which just kinda mooshes down when not in use.

Overall, I find them essential add-ons for water/snivel shit if no other provisions come on the side of a pack.

You've reached the 33rd degree of Gear Whoredom, Brah.
You're now in the Brotherhood of the Mysterious Archaeopteryx!

Mystery Ranch 3 DAP with BVS:

Left side mounted DBT Admin Pouch for pens, crayons, ripped out coloring book pages and shit:

MR Stick-It panel.
Great multipurpose add-on, for stowing shit that needs to be quickly accessible outside the pack:

Great for stowing a bucket for night hiking.
(and yeah, the NODs are attached just for the picture):

Looks tight, but there's still room for a PVS14, bladder, broke down MREs/Mountain House entrees, Jetboil/mess and a poncho liner:

Inside the pouches. Yeah I know, cotton fucking socks..............and Goretex boots!:

Ripping out all the radio straps, webbing, and buckles the 3DAP comes with gives a bit more room.

Also, the PALs webbing on the interior is a great place to mount some extra mag pouches.....

.......Which I realized are accessible, and stay put through the radio port at the top of the pack:

Bravo. Nice detail on the mags pushed up through the radio wire port.

Looks like I'm gonna take three days at the beginning of April and do a 42-miler on the AT. Gotta few odds and ends to pick up but I can't wait to get out there with the Komodo on my back. I'll lay it all out a few days before I leave.

Off topic: Which section? Loved hiking in that area. If you happen to run into a 6'3" thru-hiker going by the trail name, "Hercules," tell him his brother overseas says what's up.

Our route:

Indian Grave Gap (TN)

Iron Mountain Gap (NC)

Clyde Smith Shelter (TN)

Roan High Knob Shelter (NC)

Overmountain Shelter (NC)

We're basically straddling the TN/NC border the whole time. There's other waypoints on our route but those are the main ones.

I'm diggin' this pack so far. I have a small Condor pouch coming for the load lifter strap and I'll make a new sheath to accommodate it.

I love that pack but I wish the mesh pockets on the bottom were from a studier material.  One pocket is completely shredded and the other has some holes in it just from keeping a Nalgene bottle in them over the last 4 years

ETA- Also the plastic buckle on the waist belt broke on me a few years ago.

Idk if I'll use the mesh pockets much, on a pack this size, there isn't much quick access unless it's on your hip belt. I'm still in the search for a good pouch/pack to hang underneath on the webbing.

Thanks,dude.

Aww man, I'm a little jealous, that sounds awesome! I've always wanted to do the AT. Looking forward to a gear layout pic and an AT AAR.

Pic Thread:

HSGI Bleeder.
These are real handy to have around even if not attached to gear('specially for work!). Keep a couple around:

Sorry to hear that. Get out there and hike your own hike! I hiked through that area in 2011, and then again last year since I liked it so much. You may be better off for missing out. Norovirus has shown itself:

My brother is in the northern half of the Smokies/Hot Springs area this week, after sh*tting his pants about 20 miles south of Gatlinburg, spending a day or two in the fetal position, and then finally crawling into town to get a hotel for a day or so and clean up..

Haha, awesome. It's been ages since I did any AT hikes. I did about 70 miles total when I was in Scouts. The good news is I got every AT track imported into my MotionX app, along with all the Linville Gorge tracks. Gonna do some cool shit this spring/summer/fall.

Lightweights. I take it you cats have never been out in the bush for more than an hour. Long grass works well for an ass wipe. Take pains not to grab poison ivy, oak, or sumac, else you'll be sorry.
