I am going to purchase 5.56 and 7.62 KAC cans. What is the consensus on the best options? 5.56 will be used on 11.5 through 14.5. I already own an NT4 PRG. What’s the difference between the CRS-2 and CRS-3? 7.62 will be for SR25 to be used on an APC and a K5. CRS-1 is what I assume, but what about the QDC/CRS-PRG or QDC/ CQB-PRG? Thanks! |

I have the 556QDC, CRS1,CRS3, and MCQ. My favorite is the CRS3. Its sound is on par with the 556QDC, with better flash suppression than the 3 prong, and recoil mitigation that is very noticeable vs the QDC. The MCQ is 90% as good as the crs3, but is significantly louder. The CRS1 is not competitive except as maybe durability goes. CRS1,2, MCQ1 all fit MAMS though. |
| I find 7.62 CRS-1 to be somewhat MCQ-ish in use. It's pretty light for a 6" inconel 7.62 can, does great with flash, but it's still fairly loud. The PRS-1 does a great job for sound and flash imo but it is long and heavy. I would probably lean 7.62 CRS-1 if you're going to actually train with it. If it's only going to be shot from a bench or otherwise supported, PRS-1 is going to be great. |

CRS-1 if you want QDC. DTS is also a great can, just people can't stick it under the handguard so no one uses it. |

Sorry that was specifically for 7.62 can recommendations. 5.56 I’m indifferent towards either the CRS-2 or CRS-3 if you want a traditional full size can. The differences between those two suppressors are so small in real life applications. Find a good deal on one and you’ll be set. My overall favorite is the MCQ-2 for 5.56 but again that’s a specific suppressor that’s not for everyone. |

7.62 CRS-1 it is then. I’ll definitely be picking up a MCQ-2 in the near future too. I ordered the KAC 2-port brake and also have a 762 MAMS. Is the MAMS out of favor for the SR25? Thank you to everyone for your recommendations. One final follow up question. What’s the preferred reaction rod for the SR25? I ordered a Geissele SR25 reaction rod already, but can return it if something else is truly better. |
| It's been mentioned before that performance is most optimal with the brake as compared to the 7.62 QDC 3-prong. Not sure about compared to the MAMS, but it may not work with a 7.62 CRS-1 depending on tine length. I think the MAMS made a lot of sense under a suppressor before they had a true brake. I'd probably run one unsuppressed these days if I had one I wanted to keep. |

Here's the real-deal, no punches pulled summary of the 7.62 MAMS: When in production, no government contract included them. At the time, there was no advantage in a brake as the guns would be primarily shot in a suppressed configuration, so the added cost and increased signature of the MAMS were not wanted. The MAMS was costly to produce and therefore carried a significant MSRP. While it's a pretty good brake with better than average flash, it's still a brake with all of the consequences of a brake. There was also a weird phenomenon where certain MAMS with a specific barrel length/profile and ammo could show erratic unaccountable fliers. It wasn't a large percentage, but it was enough to cause concern, and thus the "is this what we want to do?" question started the decision to discontinue the product. Then there was the suppressor update that caused incompatibility with the long-time MAMS. Programs were wanting improved suppressor performance, and that update moved the blast baffle/baffle 1 closer to the muzzle. Remember the part where no program guns had a MAMS? Well, that becomes relevant here, as the needed baffle movement was fine with every contract configuration and therefore production commenced. The problem is that the long-tine MAMS now could bottom out on the blast baffle before the QDC pockets aligned. Thus the short-tine MAMS were created. While this was going on, a program came up that required a new suppressor and brake. A "Brake" was specifically called out, and with the MAMS being a potential weak-point in the program, the 2-port brake was created. The 2-port brake is an exceptionally good suppressor mount, and eliminated the random fliers of the MAMS, but it does pretty much nothing for flash reduction. Its short length is just right for the QDC mechanism and internal spacing. The 5.56 MAMS was likewise not part of any program. While not showing the same potential flier issue as the 7.62 version, it was still costly to produce and purchase and was therefore also discontinued to allow introduction of more needed muzzle devices at better price-points. |
