Yes I read the instructions. However my question is, what is the BEST way to apply the Rapco. What I mean is I have an AR I rattle canned lightly with Rustoleum. Is it better to strip that paint off and start fresh? Or will the Rapco be good to go right over what’s there? Any insight is welcome. Attached File Attached File |

I used a case of Rapco rattle cans to paint my '51 Willys. I would roughen up the finish that is on there but if it well adhered I think it will be fine. My biggest piece of advice is to shake the stink out of those cans. When the ball moves freely, shake it some more. The cans I used would clump badly if I didn't. |

I'd scuff it up for sure or do the brake cleaner. I wish I'd done more coats on mine. I probably used 2 coats and I don't think it was enough as its wearing through in several areas. |
I'm no holster sniffer but if someone burned down the town garage and threw canned corn at the snow plow guys I'd drop off a case of beer at the DPW. ~Aimless

| Strip it. Rustoleum isn’t stable even with most lubricants. Rapco is made to be stable with a large number of solvents that turn other spray paints into cancer paste. Doesn’t have to be perfect but no sense in leaving an inferior base coat. |

There's a thread running on Reddit currently, "Rapco spray paint megathread" (or something shit)....it's got decent pics of real world color comparisons for those interested. Now that Aerovoe has dumped their military camo spray line, Radco is really gaining popularity. |

Final stages of prep. I did one more paint strip and a heavy dose of brake clean. Followed with a heat gun. Will let dry over night. Tape up a few things, then paint. Attached File |

Especially if they’re lower quality paints that can soak up oil and solvent. Chemically no worries, but a few blasts of citristrip and a toothbrush is pretty quick. Doesn’t have to be perfect. The paste comment was in regards to oil and solvent unstable paints. I had a Rustoleum painted pistol grip years ago that left my hand brown after I got CLP on it. Even after Acetone my hand was dyed for a little bit. Probably not good for the skin but having brown streaks on my hand was definitely bad for my pride. |

Monochromatic I would say the field drab or the khaki od green. I would be tempted to be bold and do solid earth yellow. I recently discovered panther city tactical and they sell Rapco paint. Shipping is almost half the price of Rapco parts. I’ll be ordering some paint soon. I’ll probably repaint my new 12.5 build with an earth yellow base to start with and go from there. |

Right now I did a base coat of Rapco 30118 Camouflage Field Drab Brown. I painted the mag Rapco 34087 Lusterless “Khaki” Olive Drab. Of course I like this color better, and it seems to match my area a bit better than the 30118. I’m going to let the rifle and mag dry over night and probably add shades of 34087 over the base coat. As for my third color….im doing my Troy build in that yellow. I’ll post pics of that as well. Cheers. I’ll update as I go. |
