I am considering picking up a Mini-14 in either 6.8SPC or re-barreling a 223 rifle to 300 H'AMR. The 6.8 is a SAAMI chamber 6-groove barrel so, I would be looking to SPCII it with a 3 or 4-groove barrel. If I go that route, that takes me directly to grabbing a series-580 "Ranch Rifle" in 223 and moving on to a 300 H'AMR barrel. For a quality barrel, not Krieger or similar super-premium, but good, what am I looking at in terms of cost? Who are the better options for a Ruger Mini-14 rebarrel? TIA, Sid |

I've been there. It has a lot of mixed info on the Mini-14/6.8. Regarding rebarreling and chamber reamers, lots of tunnel vision too. The Ruger Forum as well and it has a lot of talk with conflicting information. I am hoping for a more diverse view and less tunnel vision here. |

Tagged for info. I've got an old mini due for rebarreling or at least cut, crown, pin, and weld. Back in the day The High Road was the source of all mini goodness but I've not been there in years |

Perfect union has the best Mini site now. You would need a new bolt and barrel and you would have to have it machined to fit the receiver. There is no screwing on a barrel with the Mini like an AR. I have had ASI do 3 barrels for me. It's pricey but the results were what I was expecting, a large increase in accuracy over the stock barrel. kwg |
