This project started out to be a buttstock gun or having a buttstock. Still going to do another in that form but not this one. I call this one a Tac 10 since it has a 10 inch barrel, actually about 10.5 inches. I really like my Tac 13 so that of course was the inspiration for this one. This is it nearly finished. It will be getting some Cerakote of a different flavor.  Some of the changes are of course the barrel length to 10.5 inches. That also required shortening the mag tube to create this particular look, like the Tac 13. A snug fitting outer sleeve around the mag tube where the two pieces come together. Then tig welded to really secure it. Haven't figured out how to create the Remington threads on the mag tube. No die is available so its single point on the lathe. A big operation to get that all set up with the mag tube still in the receiver. And then cut those threads... The cut in the mag tube is just behind the barrel ring so it does not interfere with any assembly/dissassembly of the gun. The two pieces come together with about 5/16 of mag tube on each side of the joint.  The handguard was shortened more than an inch and it leaves the clamping surgace quite thin. This is polymer so I made it stronger and still user friendly I cut a reinforcment ring to install in the handguard. Stainless and the fit was right on. Counter-boring of the handguard to the proper depth to clamp the barrel tightly.     At this point the compensating gas plugs needed to be modified so they no longer compensate and also wanted them to be much shorter. The outer tube at the back of the plug was cut off at the appropiate location. The gas hole in the plugs was tapped to 8-32 and a 8-32 cap screw was installed to block the hole as well as give a way to remove and install the plug. The area around the screw will be filled with epoxy to guarentee the screw stays put. The quote to make new gas plugs was not to my liking so this is the result.  I have a few of the barrel clamps used on the Tac 13. I split this one in half to stay with the general look of the Tac 13. It does the job nicely and looks the part. The Tac 13 barrel clamp is designed to fit a mag extension of 1.040 diameter. This gun has a 1.000 diameter extension so not the perfect fit but pretty close. Check the pic of the muzzles to see the fit. I cut back the vent rib and then finished it off at an angle to suit. It stops where it needs to and is snag free. I'm not adding any kind of sight on this because it's just not needed. I have some very nice .170 diameter brass beeds that would look good. Using the same grip as the Tac 13, a Shockwave 870 Raptor with quick disconnect, and my printed adapter to fit it to the V3 receiver. A very good fit. Here it is with my Tac 13. I like the look and there should not be any cycling issues with 3 dram 1200 FPS 1oz loads. (modified gas plugs)   The final shot of the nearly complete Tac 10. These are fun. The V3's are excellent project guns because of no external action springs and super reliable. It comes in just under 24 inches overall. It is about 7 oz's lighter than the Tac 13. I'm sure I'll feel it in the recoil.  I have another in the works. Here's a pic of all three. The third one is an 8 inch and will have more modifications including the gas block, the pistons, and the gas plugs. I'll do a post like this one when it gets near completion. Remington V3 Tac 8  |

Those look great. Love my 10" Benelli, it has a pistol-grip stock on it now but I'd like to find a short straight stock for it. All the 13s and 14s are just too boucoup now. |

With a pistol grip and a Magpul adjustable CTR stock, it works for anyone. It has a Kynshot hydralic recoil buffer tube on it. Definately takes the sting out of the light weight 12 ga's. Don't have a Benelli yet. I like the M4 but just so expensive. I do have a Panzer Arms M4 clone. Not had it out yet. I just saw Troy 1900 FPS one ounce slugs on sale. Not sure if I'm that brave! Shot 1650 before and that has some bite. Ever run some high powered slugs thru the Benelli? |

05/07/2025 I decided its been long enough without an update on the 10" V3. I headed for my desert spot I like to go to and took this one and 3 others for some testing. All were new creations or recently modified. 2 Remington V3's-10" and 11", a 7" VR80, and a 10" 1100 Remington. Focus on the 10" V3 for this update. I wanted to put more than a few rounds thru it if it worked as designed, as I hoped it would. I mad a change to the configuration. I removed the Rapter Birds Head grip and installed the original buttstock. I wanted to have a shoulder to help hold the gun stationary for recoil purposes. A limp wristed approach might not tell the whole stoy if this is going to work. I got to my spot where I have tested quite a few firearms over the years. A couple of other guys were there. They were enjoying their pistols, an AR15, and a large caliber bolt action. Said room for more. Parked about 60 feet away. Got out both of the V3's, did a final check on the 10" and loaded her up. 4+1 with Remington Gun Club 1200 fps, 3 dram eq, 7.5 shot, 1 1/8 oz load trap ammo I use all the time. First shot cycled perfectly to my surprise. Thought I might run into a gas issue at 10" but that didn't happen. Cycled the first round, loaded the second round, cycled it as well, but then nothing. ? There wasn't a round sitting on the carrier or in the mag tube. Should be 3 more rounds? I tilted the muzzle up and down came a round in the mag tube. It wasn't being fed to the carrier. It wasn't being pushed by the spring. Now what? Couldn't get it out of the mag tube. Would'nt pass the stop. 5 Alive said no disassemble but thats what I did. Since I had shortened the mag tube and added a 1 round extension for looks, it didn't like 4 rounds in the mag tube with the factory length spring. When inserting the 4th round in the mag tube, it was a bit of a push and now I know why. There isn't room for 4 rounds, the follower, and the spring in that tube. I had scrunched the spring (coil bind) into the extension along with the follower and bound up the spring. Who would have thought. So I freed up the spring and follower which took hardly nothing to do. Reasembled the spring, follower, and extension. This time I loaded up 3+1. Quirkey issue solved. Fired, fed, and ejected all 4 rounds without issue. Loaded it up again, 3+1 with the same results. Ran as designed, just 1 round short. I'll evaluate that spring and remove about 20% of the coils which will stop the coil bind. Maybe 25%. Start with 20%. Ran another 25 rounds or so thru it including some Remington managed recoil slugs and some BPS round ball slugs at 1300 fps and 1 1/5 oz ball. Ran everything after the operator error was dealt with. Both of the V3's in the picture have modified gas plugs. The compensating gas plugs no longer compensate, they are just plugs now. The 11" ran just fine in previous outings. I modified the gas plugs in it as well. Ran with athority. I also had removed the red dot and didn't remember zeroing it on this gun. So thats what I did, lots a slugs down range and it is close to dead on at 100 yards. Well I was shooting from a standing position. Taking a bench and a rest with me next time. Its set up for the longer shots like 100 yards plus. Hotter ammo as it has a KynSHOT recoil reducer under that magpul stock. I also have a pair of compensating plugs for it.
