Ive read through this thread but have yet to find this information out. I'm still a student in college and I am getting ready to send in my forms to have the ATF approve them. But my question of concern is I am currently living at school, but I am registering and building my SBR at my home(that is not school) and this question came up what is the legality of keeping my SBR here at school? I am still in the same state as registered so there is no cross state travel with it. Can I keep it at school (I'm living off campus not in the dorms) with out any problems or do I need to give the ATF a heads up? Thanks and this thread has really proven helpful. |
I already own an AR15, so I can not buy a short barrel until I have the receiver registered (I bought a new stripped lower), or else I'm guilty of owning a short barreled rifle. But they won't let me register the receiver until I can get them measurements which I won't have until I buy the parts which I can't do until I register the receiver. Can someone please tell me the overall length of an AR15 with a 7 1/2" barreled pistol upper mated to a mil spec lower receiver with a mil spec 6 position collapsible stock, when the stock is at the shortest position. Thanks! |
I believe you'd be looking at 22" with the stock collapsed. And, 25.25" with the stock extended. |
Why you intend to make firearm? "All lawful purposes" works for most. Does the form have to be typed? The form can be typed or in blue (or black) ink. Just make sure your signature is not typed!  Line (D) Model? I am putting the upper on a LMT Defender lower, should I use that or AR 15? I SBRed a LMT lower too. I put "Defender 2000" in this line. |

How many rounds is a reasonable life for a 10.5" LMT upper in the hands of a mid-level shooter (maybe a class a year, range once or twice a month)? I know that SBRs will probably lead shorter lives than their larger counterparts, I've just never heard how much shorter. |

Gentlemen i have read through this forum and found the question i want to ask but have not found the answer yet if you already have a can and want to permanentlly attach it to a short barrel do i need an additional stamp or will the can's stamp work making it over 16" in length any help would be great.... |
If you permanently attach a suppresor to a barrel making the length of the barrel greater than 16 inches, no extra stamp for the rifle itself is required. Only for the suppresor. |

Know I'm going to catch some grief on this one, but... Once a lower is registered as an SBR, can it be unregistered? If so, how? Want to get a newer lower(better) and register that one. Want to sell my old one but probably won't be able to as long as it's registered SBR. Thanks. |
Yes, it can. Send a letter to the NFA Branch Office with your info relating to the SBR receiver, requesting that it be removed from the registry. Once you receive the letter acknowledging your request, the receiver may be sold as a non-NFA firearm. Someone should be along with the proper address and such. Hope this helps. BTW, you know the right thing to do is to just keep the SBR you already have, and register another. Cost will the come out same, and you can tell everyone here that you 'got both.' Win-win, friend!

ok, a couple questions. first, is it hard/expensive to form a corporation? and how would i go about contacting mt CLEO? and i heard something about preban lowers. so, can i just get any lower and use it, or am i gonna have to find something special? and i only have a GED, not a high school diploma. is that gonna screw me? EDIT: wow, the Texas state filing fee alone is $325 to form a corporation. im gonna have to go the other route. so how do i find/contact my cleo? double EDIT: a friend just suggested a trust. would that work the same? |

ok, on section 7 of the F1, it asks if you are 21 or older. im 18. and it says "IMPORTANT: GIVE FULL DETAILS ON SEPARATE SHEET FOR ALL "YES" ANSWERS IN ITEMS 7 AND 8" sooo, what should i say? "i am 18 years if age"? and on just a blank piece of paper? im trying to get this out today, so quick response is VERY appreciated! and when sending in, do i need to send 2 copies of the trust? and all 4 pages of the Form 1? |

A few questions I need answered regarding the Form 1 and SBR ownership:
What precise markings are required, where and what size/depth? After registering a lower, can I still put regular sized legal uppers on it and transport intrastate without ATF approval? Is the total length on the form with the stock extended or retracted? Once registered to a specific length, what if I want to change a brake that is a different length (effect on overall length) than the one I filed for? ** Note that the info on TitleII.com is out of date. I applied for <16 inches for the barrel to allow flexiblity and it was returned. They want a very specific barrel length and overall length. I know some of these questions have been answered in whole or partially in this thread. I just want some verification so I can get it right and get it legal. Thanks, GD |

I reccommend using both initials (first and middle) if you don't want to spell out your first name. Also, you don't need to use periods or commas, unless dropping them might cause confusion (like A L vs. Al). So an acceptable engraving would be: G W Bush Washington DC |

What part of the trust has to be sent in with the 2 form 1s? The declaration of Trust, The certification ,Schedule A, Assignment of property???? I did this before but can't remember.
I did search but couldn't locate it. Thanks |

I searched through the 30 pages here as well as running a general search for the last 3 months but cant seem to find an answer. I saw one or two guys ask but no definitive answers-
Can you buy a "Pistol Only" marked upper and use it with an SBR lower? If the answer is yes, why would they mark it "Pistol Only"? |

Ok, newbie qustions coming.
I've called the ATF (301)583-4696 for the fingerprint cards a month ago, I still haven't received them yet. I ordered them off the website two weeks ago and still haven't recived them. How long should it take? Am I a bit too impatient? Also, does anybody in-the-know have any idea if the new President has given the ATF official or un-official orders to take their time processing Form-1's? It wouldn't surprise me. I just want to build one before they are regulated to the point of non-existence. |
| I live in PA and when my local LEO refused to sign my paperwork I went to the Sheriff and he gladly did it. Oh yeah, and without making me feel like i was doing something wrong. He actually seemed happy that i was doing it as most people think SBRs and Suppressors are illegal. God Bless America. |

Hey guys I have one question, I have done a ton of research in the last couple days and I think I have the whole process down, but my only question is.. Does it vary from state to state whether or not you can set up a trust for your SBR's? I live in Ohio, and if someone could point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.

First, sorry for reasking but I got to page 14 and couldnt handle reading anymore reasked question's. Also did two searches and came up with nothing.
Question is, what do I mark on the lower and where. I have read its full name followed by adress. So an example: Mickey Mouse 666 Walt Dr. Oralndo Fl. XXXXX Is this correct or can I take out the building number and just put state and city without zipcode? Once again sorry for the trouble if this has already been asked. Kirch |

Kirch No need for a street address, ever. For an individual (as opposed to a trust), you can do either full first name, or first and middle initials and full last name. So either of the following is acceptable: Mickey Mouse Orlando FL M.T. Mouse Orlando FL |
