Well, put together my first SBR.  This is not the final configuration.  The upper came in the mail just as I was headed to the range.

Colt 6920 lower
MAS Defense Upper using an 8" CMMG barrel 1:7 twist and YHM Diamond 7" handguard
Eotech 517, but most likely will end up putting a 1x4 something on it.

I did not have much time at the range, only got 15 rounds through it.  I just threw the Eotech on and shot the 10 rounds, 5 208 gr AMAX subs and 5 147gr supers.  That was only at 25 yards as I planned to sight it in, but for just throwing a sight on and going, I thought it decent, I am not that great of a shot.  It would not cycle the subs.  Once it gets out of jail, I will be using a YHM Ti Phantom 762 QD on it.  I really like it.

I went with MAS Defense, found it by accident, and figured it was not too pricey and bought it with the CMMG barrel upgrade for $449.  I figured I would start cheaper and see how I liked 300 BLK.  The upper is great, fit is tight and operated great.  Accuracy seems really good, but I will have to test that out later.  I am very pleased with the upper.  The BCG was not included and is one I got from PK Firearms.  Shipping was fast, ordered 7/19 and arrive 7/25.

Custom barrel I had machined 1/2-28 so a handgun silencer would fit (AAC does not make 1/2-20 or 1/2-32 for their Ti-Rant .4).  Found very few vendors who still sell 1/2-28 9mm flash suppressors--this is a Lage (although the danger is going the other way).  I marked my 9mm flash suppressor so I never put a 5.56 suppressor on this gun.

I'm confused by your question?  Does what burn? 9mm does not generate a lot of heat, even in rapid fire.  The heavy barrel contour has much more thermal mass than a handgun.

Mike

I just figured the heat from the barrel being so close to where the shooter places their hand.

Try driving a gas block pin with the rail mounted. A lot of people think that pinning your gas block is non-negotiable.  Last thing I want is my set screws coming loose at the most inopportune time.

The MK12 MOD 1 uses a set screw (non-pinned) gas block and has been in the toughest situations imaginable. I think either one can be done right and be effective.

The one in the picture has an SLR Rifleworks set screw sentry block.  And the set screw match up perfectly with Keymod rails.  It was very easy to install.  And the rail is easy as well.  For sure an extremely solid rail as well.

Ha, thank you, sir.  I still want to know where to get the bands.  Now, I just need to wrap up that Crusader upper, and then I am done.  I mean it this time.

I don't like using the handstop reversed. For some reason I like to use it with my thumb over the top rail, my index finger around the handstop and the rest of my fingers wrap around the bottom rail (behind the handstop). In short, I have long fingers and a big hand

I actually liked how it felt with the larue handstop the way you have it mounted but decided against it later, but it was comfortable with the index finger in front.
