Interesting. I thought the dimpling isn't done to the EC and ER platforms to meet cost targets, but the ECC/ECR and EC/ER share the same major barrel profile. Is the lack of a lighter weight profile due to machining costs/time, or due to performance concerns? I don't suppose you can supply the dimple dimensions so I could calculate the exact amount of material removed, can you? I'm not trying to violate any trademarks or patents or anything, just curious as to what the exact weight reductions and increase in surface area is. If not, no big deal. |

I do recommend the ACS stock over the SOPMOD though, a much better stock for precision shooting in multiple positions. If the KAC kit is out of your range, use a standard carbine tube with a spring and buffer from Slash's heavy buffers- specific for it. Yeah, I'm a big SOPMOD stock fan, didn't like the ACS as much. I'll have to go the cheapest route possible. I'm cash poor. As jboy has stated, the problem with using the SOPMOD is when shooting prone you can collapse the stock with your support hand - especially when loading your bipod and using a rear bag. At the end of the day, it's a matter of personal preference, say ACS vs. STR vs. something else, but any of these stock would be better suited than the SOPMOD for precision work. Here's a pic of my 20" with ACS. http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee295/hk53a3/IMG_1426.jpg VERY nice rifle sir!! Would you mind snapping a pic of it without the can? Just so I can see how mine would look? |

The EC was not chromed or dimpled to make the most accurate - and affordable barrel we could put in a Carbine. There is significant costs that go into both the dimpling and chroming that we felt a majority of commercial shooters would not like, thus we felt the EC barrel type would take advantage of those folks, and the ECC could remain for those who wanted the lighter weight and the chrome to reduce cleaning requirements - yet where willing to shade accuracy perhaps a tad. The two Carbines where a departure for us in that we consciencously went out to make models specifically tailored to the two sides of the commercial market –– those who wanted a "military type gun" (the ECC) and those who wanted a target carbine (the EC). Interesting. Thanks for the info! |

I must have that can.
Kevin, I read another thread where you referred to the pictured can as the "762QDC Moderator". Will the shorter can, as pictured without the additional length or flash prongs, be made available or was moderator just a nickname for the prototype cqb can? Also, if you have some time, I shot you an email in reference to an unrelated matter. Thanks again. Tspeis |
|
The Moderator came about from several Special Forces Groups (mainly 1st) being vocal about wanting a muzzle break, but a really short can as well to go into a house, where muzzle breaks are unpleasantly awkward. When I was in Texas with MARSOC they where wishing they got the MAMS and the 762QDC Moderator instead of the 762QDC/CQB Can and QDC Flash Hider.
The CQB Can grew over others desires for dB reduction - so we really have gone to a 3 part family of suppressors. |

I changed the grip, fh to surefire mb, prs ch with battle latch ( very nice ch for sr25's btw) enidine long rifle buffer, and sr25 magpul prs stock, and harris bipod with kmw pod-loc. the rifle was factory new and there is a small about the carbines here in the kac forum. basically, knights made these rifles upand then basically sat there until they started releasing them when the urx 3 hit the market. i jumped on it because its very close to an emc with a dimpled obermeyer stainless barrel. i'm sure there are a few more differences, but for me the selling point was the stainless match grade barrel.
thanks for the kind words. sam |

P/N 30194 34mm NVG Elevated Extended Type Eye Relief M110 Type Mount
Designed for folks who want to run their dual tube NVG's and look through the optic to remain passive instead of illuminating with the PEQ. I prefer the high mount anyway - from several years of running the Larue 1.93" height with a Short Dot. |

A member over on TOS did a pretty good bit of testing and wrote up a good review and he said that Bobro mounts gave the best results with LaRue/ ADM not too far behind. I don't know if he mentioned KAC mounts or not - but they are not really QD mounts compared to the others.
|
|
I haven't used Bobro mounts, but I've tried Larue, KAC, ADM, and quite a few others. Pinch type mounts like the KAC and ADM just don't seem to return to zero nearly as well as Larue's cam style mounts. The down side it they will mark up your receiver a slight bit (and bad if you overtighten them). If you have no plans for removing the optic frequently it's best to go with a fixed mount anyways. In that case the KAC is as good as any.

The only thing we at KAC have stated is that the Army found that using our one piece mount that the user using a 65ft/lb torque wrench would return to zero within a 1/4 to 1/2 MOA.
Larue make a great mount as well, and its really up to the user to decide what they want. Edit - typo |

| Is there a general number of how many SR25 EMC's were sold on the commercial market? I've been contemplating swapping the rail on my EMC to the newer URX 3.1 but, am kinda undecided and may want to keep it in it's original from if there aren't that many floating around. |

If LT and KAC would send me a stastically adequate sample size, say. . . . 100 mounts, plus ammo and a nice S&B scope, I'd volunteer to definitively settle the matter. |

I am very impressed with how soft the EMC shoots both suppressed and unsuppressed and absolutely love the cheek weld that can be aquired with any Magpul ACS/STR. As for the MK11, I am very anxious to stretch her out. I am going to hook up with EAB in the near future to hopefully push lead between 800-1000 yds. I am not completely satisfied with the cheek weld on the M110 stock, which is why most M110's in the field have been customized with foam from a ISO pad/form wrap. However it completes the clone spec of the USMC M110 REPR and I think I can look past that little issue. |
