Ive had a ban years StG 58 for many years sitting in the safe.
Just starting to think about what to do with it.
It has the cutdown and castrated flash suppressor welded in place.

Option A send the thing off and have it worked over into a honorable folding carbine.

Option B let it go to a good home and use the funds for a Ar10 .

Who's a good FAL smith?
Should I spend the funds fixing it or swap it out for a Ruger SFAR?

Just tell me what to do so I can blame someone else for my problems.

My .02, I have something very similar, a PAC built STG.  Mine has an unthreaded bbl tho.
It shoots very well as is, but I had an idea to ship it off to some well known FAL guy in AZ.  That was a few years back, it would have been 1200 for fitting my old STG bbl (came with the gun), refinishing and replace any worn springs, safety stop and trigger job.
Really not that much $, but I didn’t do it.  I just don’t shoot it as much as my 308 ARs.  In fact, I picked up an SFAR 20” recently and it looks like the FAL got pushed further back in the safe.

Probably ought to sell it. Only paid 550 with a box of parts and the original bbl.

leaning more and more that direction.
Older I get I'm more about logistics vs collections.

DSA has a refit service. I had a silver soldered fake STG 58 break. They replaced with a real stg flash hider and refinished and it was way under 300 bucks.

Does your serial number end with a A,B Or C? If so it's a factory STG parts build.

I think the A was 21 inch  B was cut to 18 and C was 16 inch.

Cut and thread barrel down to 17”, put on a short FN flashhider. A set of Imbel furniture. Now you have a South African Parks Department issue rifle. I love mine.

I don't know what castrated means.  I had my stg cut to 16", on an imbel, and I love it.

A DSA means you didn't have it built until like 20 years ago, when imbels ran dry. So, is it still a 21" bbl?  If so, people will buy it.

It is cool, and shoots great.  I just don’t shoot it much anymore.
Imbel build.  One of the few guns I could actually make a profit on lol.
