And the description on KAC's website says you must have a carbine or medium length gas system. So, it won't work with a rifle length system?

21318 is a rifle length handguard. It'll work just fine with your front sight base, as you can see here:

FF RAS PN 21318 for reference. Fits just fine with rifle length A2 sight bases.
