I got a chance to play with the new Steyr AUG A3 M2 Nato that uses nato mags and also has a bolt release. I liked it more than I expected to. Steyr AUG A3 M2

Nice!  You wrote that? Great article. Good pics too. Wow that's a lot of lube on that bolt carrier. lol Yeah I'm glad Steyr finally added the A3 bolt release to the NATO stocks in the US. It was a welcome addition. You mention wanting faster mag removal. There's a technique you can practice, but it's difficult, and the mags may not always drop free... When your current mag runs out, grasp a new mag near its base and then use the spine of that mag to depress the mag catch. (This is difficult because the spring is so strong.) If your tolerances on everything are loose enough, the empty mag will drop free. Then insert the new mag and hit your A3 bolt release. Takes a bit of practice though. |
