Sure!  Sorry about that, I ended up dropping it back draft status since I haven't personally printed or tested it.  I'll just keep it up though since there is interest in it:  https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/53009-dillon-primer-pickup-tubes

Thanks, I had assumed the prusa site nuked it for being gun related.

While you're here, could I run a project by you?

Do you think it would be possible to tweak this thing so that it feeds directly into the primer magazine tube? My thought was that it could mount with a locking ring over the knurled ring (magazine shield cap) of the primer magazine on a dillon super 1050, thereby skipping the pickup tubes altogether.

How tough would that be to make?

I could definitely do something with it if I could get the .stp, .f3d, or some other solid file format.  It's just that (for me at least), working off an STL is extremely difficult since it's a mesh.  It might be easier for me to take that one component and just redesign it from scratch.  I'll take a look at it though and see what I can do.  The other thing I will need are the dimensions for the mating Dillon component.  I unfortunately don't have one, but my brother does.

Awesome! Knurled cap is 17.7mm wide x 27mm high.

Basically what I'm imagining is a cylinder with a tension/lock ring at the bottom to grab on the knurled cap, with a ramp on the top for the primers to slide from the tray and dump directly into primer magazine tube. It might be easier to just make an adapter for the Lee tray, like this thing. That way you can have multiple trays flipped and ready to dump in. The top of the knurled cap is concave and 2.1mm deep, so would a convex bottom surface be necessary for the primers to cleanly transition from the slide to the magazine tube?

And then a hole in the top center for the primer follower rod to slide through.

The mouth/slide of that Lee tray is 11.75 wide x 5.6mm tall x 12mm long.

Does that make sense? I can do non digital MS paint.

I designed a few parts for the Hornady LNL powder measure.

I'll upload STL links when they are ready. I have a few small tweaks I want to make.

1st one is a powder funnel/component separator for those times you have to pull a bullet and dump powder back into the powder measure without worrying you drop the bullet into your powder.

2nd one is a powder baffle that lets you adjust your flow rate of the powder.

Nice! The bullet catch is cool. I could have used it a few times in the past.

What Is the advantage of adjusting the flow rate of the powder?

I got the inspiration from here.

https://www.amazon.com/Prairie-Dog-6-101-Perfect-Powder/dp/B00HYYNWFA

I think the top piece holds more of the weight of the powder than the bottom. So, it keeps the weight between the top and bottom of the powder measure more consistent.

Alright, this is the best I could do. I have no idea what I'm doing. I couldn't save as stp because it says there are no bodies.

OK, I just redrew that part since it wasn't too complex.  I put some slots hopefully for a slip fit, but I could integrate some sort of screw clamp for a more secure fit.  This is where it comes in handy to have the thing I'm actually modeling something for - it will likely need some tweaking for a perfect fit (maybe a reduction in diameter so it's tighter, or thicker walls, etc.)  Here is the first rev., but let me know if changes are needed: https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/67107-dillon-primer-filler-adapter

ETA: Printed it out and everything fits. My guesses were correct, the tray needs to be angled up (pic below), and a few primers went sideways dropping from the printed part down to the top of the knurled cap. I'm excited, this thing is already 80% ready to use.

Nice. If some kind of screw clamp is possible, that would be perfect, but with this rev I could just use a hose clamp.

Would it be possible to add a thin walled, centered 2mm tall cylinder on the bottom surface to interface with the concave top of the knurled cap? (pic below)

Without testing it yet, the only other thing that I think would make it work better is a small wedge where the Lee tray attaches, to angle it up a slight bit so tapping or vibration will make the primers slide down into the tube.

Thanks!

Glad to hear it is at least semi-functional - it doesn't always go that well on the first try!  I'll try to implement some enhancements - angle the tray mount up a bit, enhance the transition from the printed part to knurled cap, add a clamp, etc.  One thing that will be helpful is some more info on the knurled cap - is the concave part a cone shape with approx. 45 degree slope?  What is the diameter at the outer edges of the cone?  What is the diameter of the hole in the center of the knurled cap?  With that info I can make it mate up perfectly with the knurled cap, and it should be self centering so it has a smooth transition.

Let's see, diameter 1 = 10mm, diameter 2 = 6mm, and the slope is 45*-ish. The cone is about 2.1mm deep.

Ok here's the latest.  Angled the tray mount up 10 degrees, made the cone on the inside to fit with the Dillon cap, added a clamp and retaining rings so it won't fall off, thickened the walls slightly.  I made it from the other guy's design so I originally used his hole dimensions, but I think it was too large for the way we are using it.  The hole was 8.3mm in diameter, but a large primer is about 5.4mm.  I reduced the hole to 6mm, so hopefully it will improve reliability.  The clamp is designed for a #4 machine screw, but an M3 should work too: https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/67107-dillon-primer-filler-adapter

I got tired of dicking with primer pickup tubes, and have a handful of Lee primer feeder trays.

There are lots of vibratory primer tube fillers, and I thought why bother with them, it's just extra steps, why not have a vibratory tray feed directly into the primer magazine tube?

Unfortunately, the primers are still going sideways in the transition. I think instead of a cone, we need more of a tube. A tube that goes down to the top of the primer magazine tube, through the bottom 6mm hole of the knurled cap. See below for cap screwed onto magazine, with inner magazine tube visible under the hole.

This thing is the filler tube cap that would normally be used to dump primers into the magazine.

Actual picture of the tip on a filler tube.

Also, the ID of the main body of the adapter needs to be bumped out to 18mm. I had to use a clamp to force the knurled cap all the way into the adapter, and then had to break it to get it off.

Ok, no problem. I can make all those changes easily.  I'll just slice the cone off and then add a drop tube of the proper length there.  Just to be clear, that tube OD needs to be able to go through the 6mm hole in the cap and sit on top of the inner magazine tube right?

Correct, the OD of the drop tube needs to be less than 6.3mm (which is the actual ID of the smaller bottom hole) and the ID of the drop tube needs to be 4.9-5.2mm. From where the primer first drops in to the top of the magazine tube, needs to be one flat smooth surface.

Also, can you add a tenth of a mm to the surface of the top hole opposite the feed ramp? The primers are going over the edge and turning sideways, we want the leading edge of the primer to just touch the wall and then drop straight down as soon as they clear the feed ramp edge.

OK here it is with the changes implemented - got rid of the cone and added a tube, changed the diameters, etc.: https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/67107-dillon-primer-filler-adapter

I think I'm going to print it out real quick and check it.  I've got some filament to burn and a some SPP that I deprimed the other day, so I'll check out the feeding behavior.  Only thing I can't check is how it fits the Dillon cap.

Everything is great now, except the way the primers are first falling down into the printed tube. There is enough space for them to 'tip over' into the hole, and there appears to be a small lip about 9mm down that is also contributing to them getting stuck sideways.

Other than that, the ID of the main body is perfect, and the small narrow tube you added to the bottom is the perfect OD and length to fit into the top of the knurled cap and sit against the primer magazine tube. In my testing of r3, the only jams were in the printed part near that lip, as opposed to r2 where they would get stuck at the top of the knurled cap.

We're getting close!

Rapid prototyping for the masses.

I've also updated my bullet tray to fit the presses that have the roller handles installed like those from Inline Fabrication. I moved the dovetail on the tray more to the right and there's no slope to the side of the tray on the right side. So, this should provide enough clearance for the roller handles.

I'm thinking about expanding my options for my bullet tray to other presses.

I'm hoping to get dimensions off my Dad's RCBS Rockchucker press in the next couple of weeks and make something that would work for it.

I'd really like to get dimensions of the LEE single stage press or their progressive press.

On the Hornady LNL I have the bullet tray mounting to the bar closest to the reloader. I think I can modify my design to fit the LEE classic press. Really just need dimensions of the bar and the height of the letters casted onto the bar. Also, approximately what angle the 0 support is from the center line of the press. That way I can angle the mount so it's straight to the reloader.

Here's one I think I can work with.

@Thump_rrr

Yes, it works perfect on the older presses. That's what all my testing has been on. I got measurements for one of the newer presses from a member here. But Hornady has done another change to the casting at some point and that's really the one I need dimensions for. Most recent manufacture ones. My clamps are close to being right for that one, but if I'm going to keep making them I need to get the fit right.

Ok, sorry this took so long.  I realized too late that you were looking at the classic cast, and I have the challenger which has much trickier geometry.

I already did up the MS pain and took the pictures so I'll still throw them up here, but if it is more work than you want to deal with I totally understand.

I'd really like to get dimensions of the LEE single stage press or their progressive press.

I can help with Lee single stage and/or c press dimensions.

Let me know what specifically you are looking for, and I'll check tonight.

Ok, sorry this took so long.  I realized too late that you were looking at the classic cast, and I have the challenger which has much trickier geometry.

I already did up the MS pain and took the pictures so I'll still throw them up here, but if it is more work than you want to deal with I totally understand.

Here is a 100% more MS Paint cross section with dimensions.

Awesome job on the measurements. I wish I could get good measurements on the newer Hornady LNL presses of recent manufacture. I tried going to local gun shops to get measurements, but they don't even have display models anymore. They're selling everything/anything reloading as soon as it's in stock.

After doing some brain storming I'm thinking the rear section may be better on single stage presses. I could come up with something that fits on the outer ribbed portion, but I could make it adjustable to fit several presses. Similar to what this guy did, but I could design it to work with my bullet trays. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2749171

On progressive presses the handles are more to the right, but on single stages they come pretty close to the front bar. This complicates things along with variations between brands, etc.

Edit: Now after thinking over your measurements I might could make something work on that press at the front bar location.

@TribunusSanGeorgii

Here's what I came up with to fit the Lee Challenger press. I have no way to test the fit though. I designed it to screw together from opposite corners to clamp around the press. Then the dovetail will fit one of my bullet trays.

Got the bracket printed!

Seems to work well, however I dont have my press mounted right now as I'm re working my bench.

The one nub on the right side of the press could be wider, but I dont think it is really needed.

I have the bullet tray itself on the printer now.

I made some tweaks to the size of the hole for the #8 screw. I forgot I had to increase that recessed hole size to fit the #8 screw head. Should fit the head better and guesstimated some dimensions to get the fit a little better based on your pictures.

Here's the thingiverse link for others to download and let me know if it needs more tweaking.

I'm currently working on a bullet tray for the Hornady Classic single stage press.

I've had some people contact me about making one for it and they got me the dimensions I needed. Should print samples later this week and send out for testing.

Im toying with the idea of a 3d printed beam scale, and trying to find all the reasons it wouldn't work.

I can't find one already designed by anyone else.

@drfroglegs

Almost ready to release it. I had to make a new round of clamps that were larger to fit the bar. Waiting to see how they fit with the new batch I sent out for testing.

One of my testers did send me some awesome pics though.
