So, these guys are, IIRC, around 10-ish years old or so and I don't believe it's really a supported system any longer.
However, (e.g.,) systems like the ECOTI are compatible with CivTAK, but we're all still kind of working through how to manage things like programming cables and EUD interfaces, as well as how to disseminate the necessary app (that actually makes interfacing the ECOTI super user-friendly), and then of course the end-user needs to have a TAK server to begin with.
With organizational users and standardized equipment across a large-ish group, it's a little easier to build out the "package," but whenever you get into "Civ," and individual users there's a whole bunch of potential issues you may not even be aware of yet because there's so much variation out there in what people individually have and may want to use with it.
The "easy" answer is likely to simply define a more narrow set of equipment (primarily EUD--AKA: what phone you use) conditions under which the functionality can reasonable be expected to be interoperable with, however the hope would still be that we could cover at least some range of likely devices / equipment combinations.
The good news is that the organization formerly known as Optics 1 (now Safran Defense & Space, Inc.) is not opposed to making the functionality work and be available.
As for other systems, I will share more details at another time when I am able.
