I did Cowboy Action Shooting for several years but have not been for MORE than several years.  Don't consider myself "out of CAS", but certainly not active.  I started by spending money I didn't have to get a Uberti 1873 Short Rifle in .45 Colt and a Cimarron/Uberti SAA clone.  Had to add a second cheap Italian SAA after my first match.

I am a collector, shooter and accumulator.  Have all the guns I "need" and have the means to buy guns I want.  And I'm trying to decide what lever rifle I want next because I have an itch.

I recently bought a used Uberti SAA in 38-40, so I'm leaning toward another rifle in that caliber.  What I have is an antique Marlin 1889 in fairly rough shape.  It is a full-length 24" rifle.

I was thinking I'd like one of the "Deluxe" Model 1873s from either Winchester/Miroku or Uberti, with at full 24" barrel (more ammo capacity).  Or maybe even a "Long Range" rifle with a 30" barrel, but they only come in 44-40.  In 38-40, the Deluxe 24" is apparently no longer available, but the 20" version is.  And 38-40 would be only from Uberti as Winchester makes 38/357, 45 Colt and 44-40.

Maybe I'd like a .357 Mag 24" Deluxe rifle.  Can get that from either maker. But that 30" Long Range is tempting.  Or maybe a 24" Deluxe 44-40 from Winchester as they come ready to take a tang sight.  Arrrrrrrrggggggghhhhh!  To many choices!!!!!!!!!

So I have a lot of bases covered.  Looks like maybe the size/caliber opportunity is the 24" 357 Mag.

Any thoughts to help me out?

I'd like a 92 action 16" .357 - seems like a pretty effective amount of power in a small package - and theoretically available as an antique if I have the coin & want to convert an original.

The answer is 45-70 and yes they make pistols in that also.

Asking the wrong guy here as I shoot the updated .38-40 aka .41 magnum.

I shot a couple cas shoots with my Rossi 92 in 357 mag / 38 spl. There was 1 stage where you needed to load an 11th round and hit a further out gong.

I blew everyone's mind dropping a round directly into the chamber of my Rossi 92. They were like that can't be legal!

I have an original Marlin 1894 .44mag. It is a great rifle. From what I’ve seen of the Ruger Marlins, I don’t think you’d be disappointed.

Thanks so far.  The list in my OP is what I have in pistol-caliber levers.  I also have 30-30 and 45-70, plus lever action .410 and 12 ga shotguns!  And a Rossi Ranch Hand .45 Colt pistol.

I like 41 Mag, too.  I have a similar set of pistols...S&W Model 58, Ruger Old Model Blackhawk and a Contender barrel.  And I'll raise you a Colt New Army & Navy in .41 Colt and a Herters .401 Powermag.

Would like a lever in it, but the only one fairly readily available is the Henry and I'm not thrilled by it.  The old Marlins are few and far between.

It sounds to me like you have everything but the 30" barrel pretty much covered. You already have a couple in that caliber so you wouldn't have to start buying something new.

lol.  there are not many mainstream, or even oddball, calibers that I don't already load for.  

Haven't been able to find many reviews or folks talking about the 30" rifles though.  My 24" inch rifles are all antiques, I think--oh, the 1860 Henry is a 24".

I see a distinct lake of takedown rifles in that list.  I suggest a 16" trapper takedown in the economical .357 Magnum chambering.  

2nd choice: same gun in .44 Mag.

I never leave my parents' basement, so I don't really need takedown.  But you're right, I don't have one.  I was considering one of the Winchester/Miroku takedown 1892s, but I can't get past the tang safety on it (yet I tolerate it on my 1886 by the same maker).

I choosed...ordered a Cimarron Deluxe Long Range rifle in 44-40 with 30" barrel.  If I can't shoot them, I can bop 'em on the head (the Terminators, that is).

If I already had what you listed, I'd be looking for that 30' 44-40.

Or.... a super short powerhouse, maybe 44 mag or 45 Colt.
or a 45-70. 16" or SBR.
