I am thinking about having my 20 inch barrel cut down to 16.5 and threaded. Adco doesn't do tavor barrels. Anyone have any experience with getting one done. It's times like this I wish I hadn't retired from being a machinist.

This probably won't help, but I was kinda in the same boat as you. I got a smoking deal on a 20" T7, but really wanted a 16" version. I was thinking about trying to trade the 20" for a 16" barrel. You can get a spare 20" barrel, but not a 16", so I knew it might be hard to do. I also tried to look at having it cut down. Before I could make any moves, I came across a 16" T7 that had some extras with it (Mantecore curved buttpad and high top rail). I wanted the extras anyway and would have eventually purchased them, so I ended up getting the 16" T7. So now I got a pair of T7s, but I'll sell or trade the 20" for something catches my eye or I need some extra cash. With that said, if you do find somebody, please mention it. I could actually see chopping my 20" down to 13.9-14.5" and pin/weld a flash hider on. I haven't looked to deep into it to even see if is possible, but I've had a couple of rifles like that in the past and liked them. With $0 tax stamps, maybe even just SBR it. The main ones I liked was a PTR-91 (by AZ Response) and an AKM (by AZEX). Both were chopped and had a flash hider pin/welded to make them just over 16" OAL on the barrel. Those are guns I regret selling as they were nice and handy. There was a period where I really wanted to try the next thing I really burned through some nice guns in search of the next best thing. As much as I regret not having some of them, I did get to handle a lot more guns because of that. Everything from an FN-2000 to a Daewoo K-2 to a Smith Ent M-14 18" Crazy Horse build in a Sage stock crossed my hands. |

IWI has been out of barrels and most parts for years now. I bought a spare barrel and bolt kit for my SAR because I didn't want to send the whole rifle in to get them to toss a LH bolt in. I did shorten, pin and weld the extra barrel. I did think about SBRing the SAR but it the chassis is long as hell so not really worth it. It's not much harder than an AR barrel. Maybe the fact they can't replace it if it gets screwed up is the only reason I can think of. Maybe I'll ask my ex foreman if I can't find anyone else since he has a home machine shop. He's not really a gun guy but I can supervise him.

| I did a search to see if anyone had ever chopped a 16 to 14.5 or similar and this thread popped up. After skimming the results it didn't seem like anyone had. I keep hoping someone will crank out some short bullpups maybe the new NFA stuff will help move closer to that. |

Its not as easy as an AR barrel but it's not difficult but does require more set up time and a lathe with large enough throw to do it with the gas block on it because that thing is not coming off for anyone. I did a spare Tavor SAR barrel I had to appx 14. 750 (to keep the rifle at 26 inches) for a pin and weld. I would do the T7 myself but I retired and no longer have access to a full machine shop. |
| I guess they are one of those guns people mostly leave alone. Makes sense. I saw they made SBR versions of the smaller bullpup and was wondering if they had done that with the 7. Are the barrel assemblies at least easy to remove? Seems like a lot of places went to big enough machines they can do barreled actions on bolt guns so I'd think they could work around the gas system. |

Not a lot of aftermarket support or mods for them so most keep them close to stock. Barrels aren't quick change and they are expensive. I got an extra for my SAR only because I needed a LH conversion bolt so i bought the who kit with the intention of cutting one down. The barrels are pretty easy to remove. You just have to disassemble the rail and handguard along with the special wrench which may be in the tool kit. It's been a while so I'm not sure. The X95 does have the SBR version which might pick up in popularity. The problem is IWI is horrible on stocking parts and guns. When I shortened my SAR barrel I was planning on removing the gas block and other stuff pinned to the barrel. Removing the bayo lug took the hydraulic press. I think everything has an interference fit to the barrel unlike most other guns. I gave up on getting the block off so I went with plan B and threaded it with everything on. Not ideal but doable. Any lathe with at least an 6 inch throw can handle it. One problem I see is that if a shop does screw up and has to replace a customers barrel that will be an expensive mistake. |

So I emailed them today prior to shipping it out and they told me I can just send the barrels since I already took it off. I think maybe they’re offering to take the whole rifle because people tend to damage it when disassembling it and leaving the charging handle in |
