I have my 07 FFL and 02 SOT. I am buying a bare receiver with the intention of building it into an SBR. My question is about putting it in the bound book. I have a book for GCA firearms and a book for NFA firearms. Am I correct that i log the reciever into the GCA book and then under disposition log it out to my NFA book? Then log it into my NFA book showing it was received from my GCA book? I'm waiting on my ATF examiner to answer but it's been 2 days so far. |

Convert to a single book or even better use an on-line system like fastbound. Log receiver in as Acquisition, log it out as Disposition to your FFL, log it in as new MFG SBR. |

It seemed like a good idea before I became an ffl. But I don't see it helping in any way that a single electronic book wouldn't do. Especially having a manufacturing book. What do you do after you log it in the manufacturing book? Just log it out and into your "regular book?" Why not just log it manufactured directly into a single book? |

Multiple books may not be a benifit, but they make more sense to me at least at this point. My business plan is mainly gearded toward manufacture of NFA items, mainly Suppressors but also SBR's. "normal' firearms or what my IOI call GCA firearms will mainly be to create SBR's. As far as how the 2 books help me, this is what I plan. One book for all the normal non-NFA items. I don't plan on doing transfers for many folks so this will be items such as buying Ruger Mk4's and 10/22's to add suppressors to. they go in the first book and then out to the customer. The second book will only contain NFA items created or possibly purchased by the business. Having never done this before, it seems like that would be easier. But I'm hearing folks say it isn't? Let me ask this, maybe now that I'm thinking about it one book is easier. Let's say I purchase an AR lower receiver with the plan of building an SBR with it. I log it in say for instance on Line 9 in the book. I don't get around to building it for a while and in the mean time I have purchased other firearms. So when I get to it, I log it out but I log it back in several lines or even pages away. Let's say for discussion it's logged in and out on page one, but it's logged back in as an SBR on page 3. That's not a problem? |

No different than after you make your SBR, you send it off to an 01/FFL for cerakote. It would still be in your same NFA book, just a few lines apart. Many new FFLs think multiple books makes sense, till in reality you start using them. |
