| ok, my latest "project" I would like to do involves a receiver flat (CETME) that I would like to build into a 12.7" SBR just to be a bit different..... Being an unbent flat, it of course has no markings on it that I would need for a Form 1.. Ive done 3 Form 1's on completed lowers that were already marked, so I know that part of the procedure.... What I need to know is how do I "legally" go about marking the flat so that I can get it past the Form 1 police... I know WHAT has to be on there, but as for the serial number, how picky are they? as a non-licensee made PMF, do I just pull a number out of my ass, or do I have to apply for one... Is it required to get one from a licensee? how did that work out? im probably overthinking it, but prefer to do that beforehand and ending up with an unregisterable receiver or worse..... |

You engrave: -Your name (or your trust/entity name) as it is on the Form 1. -City/State where it's made. -Caliber. -You may designate it with a model, but that's not actually required if you want to minimize engravings. -And you give it a serial number. You make it up yourself, it just has to only be made up of numbers 0-9 and letters A-Z. Length and arrangement is totally up to you, there is no application process for a S/N. |

It's any s/n you want to make up. I usually use letters like FJB or TRUMP as the prefix, then some numbers, usually numbers with some meaning to me. Can be one digit or as many as you want. |

Dont get creative like others I have seen with "Binford" or other ficticious makers and the process is simpler I assume, as there isnt any "research" for the ATF to do. prospective engraving such as: ScottinAZ Somewhere, AZ Cal 7.62 NATO CETME Jenny Serno: 8675309 |

ok, one last question if anyone is still looking at this.. Do I need to get the information engraved on the receiver flat BEFORE submitting the Form 1, and provide pictures of the engravings during the process, or can it all be on "paper" until the process is completed, and THEN send the flat out for engraving? |

Legally speaking, the markings need to be on the firearm before it's fully built as an SBR. In this case, that would be essentially when you pin on a stock and have the barrel mounted to the reciever. However, since you're making it as a new firearm, it might go more smoothly if you can send them pictures of the markings with the form submission because it will be an unusual case for them. I've seen in the past that they end up emailing you and requesting pics of the markings while going over your form anyway if it's an unusual model. And one more thing just FYI, since the model designation is optional, if you make up your own model and submit with that, it will slow down your application a little bit because it will for a brief time be in a "pending research" phase. |

Yeah, I knew it needed to be on there before the firearm is completed, but wasnt sure IF I needed to send them pics when I applied for the Form 1. i just got the flat today, but being able to file the form 1 NOW, gets the ball rolling for when the rest of the parts arrives.... Do you happen to know WHAT to use as the manufacturer or manufacturer code? Can I use FMI (which comes up as "form 1 Application") since I am the one bending the flat, or isnt it that simple, and I put my name in there for the MFG and go through the "pending research" purgatory phase? I have the receipt for the flat, but that doesnt show anything other than the part number and the flat is completely devoid of marks.... |
