Hey there, can I stipple the frame of a carry optics class pistol? I know the rules say optics carry is ESP with a red dot but esp rules don’t say anything about not stippling. How about an after market magwell? Thanks.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I'm always willing to speculate.

In SSP stippling is prohibited by A.1.4.9

ESP just refers you to 8.1.6 & 8.1.7, which are the allowed and prohibited modifications for all divisions, and it does not mention stippling.

Rule 1.2.2.2 says All equipment must be practical. This is the guiding principle for everything in IDPA. I think it's perfectly reasonable and practical to stipple an EDC CCW.

So it seems like stippling is ok in ESP and CO.

Oh, and no removable mag wells in IDPA, but it's just now occurring to me that you might be talking USPSA, so IDK if anything I've said is helpful.

Stippling an otherwise  basic SSP polymer gun would place it into ESP.

Logic says CO would permit that mod.
