Biggest ever lottery winner Edwin Castro scoops up mansion in star-studded Hollywood Hills

It comes just 30 days after he claimed his $997.6 million prize - after taxes

Castro, who is believed to be in his 30s, is facing a lawsuit from a man who claimed he bought the winning ticket

The winner of the biggest ever lottery prize will soon count Ariana Grande and Jimmy Kimmel as his neighbors after he snapped up a sprawling $25.5 million Hollywood Hills mansion.

Edwin Castro hit headlines after winning the $2.04 billion prize back in November - though he has chosen to remain private ever since.

But just one month after scooping up his one-time payment, reports state he has invested in a 13,578-square-foot hillside home which comes complete with a full outdoor kitchen, gym, wine cellar and infinity pool.

It comes after it was revealed Castro is being sued by a fellow California resident who alleges he had the winning ticket and it was stolen from him.

Last month Castro, who is reportedly in his early 30s, finally claimed his $997.6 million prize after taxes.

He bought up his new lavish home less than 30 days later, reports real estate magazine Dirt.

The three-story property, which sits behind the iconic Chateau Marmont, comes complete with five bedrooms and five bath and powder rooms.

It also features an infinity pool, movie theatre and sauna as well as two separate garages that can hold up to seven cars.

The pad was first listed back in July 2022 for $30 million but it appears Castro managed to shave $4.5 million off the headline price.

Other amenities include a game room and bar as well as a fitness studio with a hot and cold plunge, a dry sauna and steam shower.

Meanwhile the double-height glass stairwell offers extensive city views while two fire pits and a built-in barbecue area sit outside.

Castro has largely tried to evade the spotlight after his record-breaking win.

Californian rules dictate that any lottery winner must be named - but he has never been pictured out in public.

At the time lottery director Alva Johnson said the winner wanted to remain private and had declined an invitation from lottery officials to attend the press conference.

In a prepared statement Castro said: 'As much as I am shocked and ecstatic to have won the Powerball drawing, the real winner is the California public school system.'

The education system will receive over $150 million as a result of the win.

The first of many lawsuits against the guy, no doubt.

Not really sure I'd want to buy a big mansion and make myself a target like that, but it's not like I have a billion dollars so who am I to say.

Good for him but I'd be leaving California.

Montana, Texas, and Florida is where I'd be buying property

I wonder what the property taxes on a 25mil house is in California?

Over a billion in taxes?

Fuck.

ETA

Or was it the lump sum payout, after taxes?

"Decoy house"

Seriously, my new lottery plan is to buy a big house in California, have a reasonably big presence there on paper, and physically spend the rest of my life somewhere else.

I feel like $25mil on a Hollywood mansion is pretty tame, plus the local police are probably very helpful to people in his position.

Should be video of the buying and theft of the lottery ticket as the article reads they are communicating with the place the ticket was bought from.

Also, $1b is pre tax. He’ll have to pay another $500m in tax.

I believe that was the lump sum payout after the 24% withholding.
That amount is likely still subject to the overall 37% fed rate(minus the 24% withholding) and State income taxes.

My first chunk of that would be spent on a team of lawyers to hide me and that money inside of as many trust, shells, or wtf ever was needed.  Then buy the largest acreage I thought was reasonable in Texas and disappear.  Of course said acreage would be owned by Fuck Off Land Trust.  Fuck buying anything in California.

Win a million, not too big of deal. Keep it low key and go on living.

A billion would be a fucking burden.  Fuckers at every turn begging for money, lawyers, relatives you didn't know you had crawling out from under rocks, security, etc, etc, etc.

I would guess he'll be paying $375k-$400k a year in property taxes annually for this home.

All rich people are potential targets, so you just hire security. He is one of the more wealthy people there though, as he has 1B cash,  He is stacked and its cool hes young and not a 74 year old dying cancer victim. hell, he's got almost 3X more than Tay Tay's entire net worth.

I’d buy in a few states. Not sure if Ca would be one of them but when you got big bucks LA can be almost as fun as it can be dangerous.

I’d buy every ticket to the super-bowel and not go.

The guy suing him has a pretty convincing case. He's waiting for the store that sold the ticket to release security camera footage, but they've been stalling.

Buying a 25 million dollar house in a high tax area is a good sign that he doesn't know how to manage money.   Hell, even in a low tax area, that 25 million is going to cost ALOT just in maintenance and upkeep.

Maybe he won enough that he literally can't spend it before he dies... but I doubt it.

The only thing a massive lotto win would really change for me is scenery.    It would afford the opportunity to live in the middle of nowhere, where no jobs are to be found, and water wells go thousands of feet deep.
